Just checked it out here
Finally, a movie about Dwarves! It should be excellent.
Harumph!

It will be very interesting to see how the film brings in elements from works that were written after The Hobbit to update the story. For example, Galadriel appears to be in the film, which seems strange at first glance. However, her influence could hardly have been absent given later writings in The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. The character of Legolas was also not present in The Hobbit, but given that he would doubtless have accompanied his father Thranduil at this time, he almost has to be included in the film.
This gives an interesting look at how writing and created lore change over time. The author involved did not stand still over the years and any re-telling should take this into account.

I'm hoping that the portrayal of dwarves will be more balanced than in the LotR movie trilogy. PJ had a chance to challenge the stereotypical use of short people as cheap humor and he didn't take it. Hopefully he will this time. The dwarves should be light hearted but also noble and evoke a sense of solidity and sturdiness beyond measure.

Judging by the trailer, they seem to follow that stereotype, I got reminded of Snow White's dwarves.

Hopefully there will be fewer references to dwarf-tossing in this one.
And why are dwarves almost always given Scottish accents (even in RPGs)? Sure they're hairy, and drink a lot, and guard their riches carefully, but... oh. Now I get it.

In Jackson's defense, Gimli has more decent lines in the extended versions. He got cut down to mere comic relief just to make the theatrical release a reasonable length.
Anyone else notice how aged the Hobbiton/Bag End location looked? I guess the place has been sitting there for a decade, growing weeds.

Thorin Oakenshield's beard needs to be longer, and greyer. Other than that, I got no complaints.
Harumph!

Have to agree, that is a rather sad dwarven beard.
