Dear BioWare and Electronic Arts,

We, Hungarian, Czech and Slovakian fans of the Mass Effect Universe have apprehensively heard about Mass Effect 3 won't come with a Hungarian & Czech & Slovakian localisation.*
Our Mass Effect fan base is huge in Eastern-Central-Europe so exluding us would be way too disappointing.
Please read through the petition and make a wise decision about the Hungarian & Czech and Slovakian localisation. We want to buy Mass Effect 3 with Hungarian & Czech and also Slovakian subtitle.[/b]

Yours faithfully,Hungarian, Czech and Slovakian ME fans[/b].

The petition is here:

I'm afraid Mass Effect 3 won't have localisation in Hungary. :( Do we have a chance to get ME3 with subtitles in Hungary?

English is easy language to learn and almost everyone on internet uses it.

LEARN IT!

I never had any game localized for my language and I didn't need it.
Sure it would be cool to have game localized, it's not necessary.

I think decision on localization will be taken by whatever company will actually sell copies in each country, not by BioWare / EA themselves, so posting petitions here is kinda pointless...

I'm Hungarian, but I've never signed the petition, the quality of translation is allways terrible, (an example: In DA:O Libertarian's Cowl was misstranslated to Librarian's Cowl, and this is just a minor one) and BioWare games ar the best to play on original language. Please learn english, it ruins the game when you must read everything to figure out whats going on in a conversation.

It's worse when games are forcefully localized.

Dental insurance. Or rather the lack of.

My point is that:

1) It's easier and better to simply learn english because...
2) Localizations are almost always done badly. Plus...
3) It's ultimately not up to Bioware when, if and where localizations are done.

I wish they would make localization in my language as they did for ME1 and 2. It is strange to localize two parts of trilogy and not the final part, but sadly it seems it has been already decided. I will understand the game, but I admit I would enjoy it more if I wouldn´t have to translate everything.

Well the petition has apparently been closed, so this was short lived and pointless.

I agree with you Arcian. When I installed my ME2 first in Polish language (no English on DVD's) I had to close the game with Alt+F4 because the dubbing was awful. I had to download the game in English from other source. I'm just glad it wont be the same with ME3. Also few DLC's wasn't avaiable for localised games because EA is LAZY.

It's a better idea to try and convince the publisher, not the developer who can't really do much in this situation.

English is easy but that's not the point. Experiencing the material in its original is great but that's not the point. You ever wanted a ham sandwich but someone tried to convince you a salad would be better? Salad IS better, but that's not the point.

They should make like those voiced over movies and cartoons where one single dude talks over the voice actors.

I hate countries who has to have subtitles in their own language. And it's even worse with countries who want it dubbed in their langauge. So silly. Learn english ffs! Europe often gets stuff like this later than others because France, Germany etc wants it in their language and whatnot. I think it's just fair that BW just wont bother with it.

I think dubbing is out of question. It´s expensive and it also ruins the original feeling actors put into their characters. Subtitles would be great. Not all people can speak or understand english. But...and apparently it might seem outrageous to some...there are people who can and still prefer to read subtitles in their native language. Image IPB
So it´s a bit of let down to support some language for two games and then drop it for third. And it also cuts off certain players, who were able to play ME1 and 2 only because there were subtitles in their language.

And now you can hate me.Image IPB

*You hate countries who localize games?* This is a bit silly and extreme, no?

Not everyone can learn and master a foreign language at a young "gaming" age, and for many reasons - age, talent, natural skills, access to quality teaching/teachers. There are people who learn quickly, and then there are people who are great at many other things - young talented athletes, artists just to give some examples - except for languages. Sometimes we don't have time and capacity to learn a foreign languages but still want to enjoy good games - anything wrong about it?

I can assure you that there are many gamers out there who appreciate having games localized - especially text heavy games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. We all know there is some awesome writing in ME or DA - often quite a challenge for a translator, even - that can't be enjoyed in full unless you have an advanced knowledge of English with all its subtleties.

EA is one of the few companies who localize their games even into "minor languages" and I applaud them for that even if I know it's a business decision based on analyzing the sales figures.

That being said, petitions won't solve anything. This is most probably a business decision, too, and one that shouldn't be taken "personally" by Czech, Hungarian or any other fans.

The fact that localization of AAA titles is extremely difficult to do well is sad, but true. Succesful localization is dependent  on many people (translators, testers, coordinators, developers) and many aspects - good localization takes time and needs a lot of care - things that are not easily found amidst the game-developing chaos!

Let's be grateful for the games that we have, let's try to improve the "sales figures" and we might get a localization next time ;)

(And before you ask, I do play games in English)

I don't see any reason for that. It can incite people to start learning. Last time (ME2) it was a sloppy work where they for example refered to Jacob as her...

EDIT: there was a reason to this since they made Czech translation in Spain o_O

English is not easy to learn, it's one of the most difficult languages to learn because the rules of language are formed by a cluster **** of languages from invaders of Britain, not to mention that some of the rules are really hard to grasp (how many native English speakers do you know who can't structure a sentence to save their life, let alone spell).

I really don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a translation; especially considering some of the complicated language and terminology that Mass Effect uses. Not to mention races like the Volus and Vorcha that don't speak conventionally.
