I was just trying to load one of my Premium Module saves today, and it never managed to authenticate.
I pinged the master server, and it seemed to be up, but when I checked the network traffic I found that my authentication packets that were sent to it repeatedly never got any replies whatsoever.

It was working fine yesterday (and all the times I decided to load them up in the past). Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Was something changed (that broke the premium module authentication)?

Started failing for me late yesterday. Same symptoms. Authentication packets sent to the server with no response back.

Same here.
I just tried, both "new game" & "savegame", with the few I own and none went through the authentication process. It stays for ever on that demo screen.
And I know for sure the request has been sent, as my firewall says so.
Just no response.

Not until the folks at BioWare get back from Christmas, I suppose.
Though it would be a great Christmas present to have this issue fixed, I must say. ;)

Or a permanent "authentication" remover. An easier, faster, not to mention finally smart and human way to fix this spying ugliness...

That's true, Bioware should remove that drm and sell the dlcs in the gog bundle (and releasing them free online, I think that it's cheaper for them to remove the drm than keeping thoose server running).

Actually the fact that it's down suggests they might be in the process of being fixed. Until recently the server was authorizing all requests. Now it's not authorizing ANY requests.

The Premium Mods are not Bio's to sell, they belong to Atari. But I think you may be near the mark.

With Atari having lost it's lawsuit against Hasbro it's possible that they are insisting these servers be fixed. Since the agreement allows them to continue "support and development" of existing titles they can only milk the DnD cash cow by selling titles they've already released. I'm hoping they're preparing to sell them again. I would certainly buy them ALL.

Of course that would be pointless if Bio is authorizing all requests.

Hehe...well, you have to keep in mind that EA owns Bioware now...and EA and Atari are competitors.

It would have to be a very interesting agreement going for Atari to sell those titles again...worse than a 100 meter hurdle sprint...

I don't think Bio would have any choice. They are still bound by the original development agreement.

Ummm...I am not sure about that! IANAL, (we will have to ask Funky here, I guess), but I believe that Hasbro (WotC) has control over digital distri again.

Soooo...that would seem to cover all that for Atari. It seems that Atari is "out of the loop" here...legally speaking. Well, we shall see, I guess.

Atari bought the licence from  Hasbro (WotC)  to produce digital D&D games.  With the law suit, the lease was revoked, giving  Hasbro the control of leasing the digital rights again.  I do not see that in any way removing Atari as the publisher of the games they already own the right to.   They are even still making at least Two other digital titles in with the D&D ruleset. The suit was more over leasing right then digital download rights.

Digital licensing rights for Dungeons & Dragons have been returned to Hasbro. Atari will continue to develop and market several games under license from Hasbro and Wizards, including the #1 Xbox LIVE® hit Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale and the upcoming Heroes of Neverwinter for Facebook. Additional settlement details remain private.

At least that is the way I read the above.

Hmmmm. There was a post from Bioware on this, and it would seem that any and all NWN related stuff *IS* an Atari/Bioware sort of thing.

Interesting.

Would be AWESOME if one could get them to release the source code for NWN!!!!

Now that is not within Atari license.  Atari got in trouble for distributing DnD material through competitors which brought up the lawsuit to begin with.  Any non-SRD information is protected by WoTC copyright, and I believe the source code contains "protected"  DnD mechanics.  To release source code, by my understanding, would require agreement from EA, Hasbro, and Infogrames; something not likely to happen.

So if you and all your fellow NWn fan pals in Paris lettered some nifty signs and started picketing the Atari headquarters, how would it read in French?  I know how it would read if it was in English but in French it may sound more politically lenient. :pinched:

Okay, it's up again. Thanks, BioWare (and whoever else that was involved). Just in time for a New Year's present for us? :)
(Will update this thread should it go down again)

A New Year's present would have been to permanently remove that $?$%&@£$ authentication system.
But, hey, another Happy New Year to NWN and to you all!
