I don't know, he's sort of a mary sue. I mean he took out an entire fully armed highly, trained turian assault squad with a toothbrush wearing nothing but a tubesock.
He's more of an anti-Shepard. Shepard's opposite.

^^^^^
I've really disliked Kai Leng in the fiction.
I have not read the spoilers, but I suspect fighting him will be really annoying He'll probably be one of those jerks who gets away to fight another day, whether it makes sense or not (that is, his getaway won't make sense like Vido's in Zaeed's loyalty mission or Saren on Virmire). I just can't imagine Bioware letting such a "darling" character lose against Shepard.
How did he get away at the end of the third novel? I forget the details, but it was just as implausible as that Turian fight was.

Shepard's a Mary Sue too.

Shepard would be a Mary Sue in most works, but in Heroic/Romantic Fiction he is simply a champion/hero. Like how Aragorn or any other member of the Fellowship is always badass at killing orcs. That's just what heroes do.
Same goes for Kai Leng. That's just what heroes' worthy adversaries do. They "Mary Sue" the hell out of it. That's what it takes to be a nemesis of a larger than life hero.

Why must everyone overexaggerate around here? He had a 12-inch combat knife and a heavy pistol the entire time, and he knew the station a lot better than they did. It also wasn't an entire squad, and he only pulled it off because he had the advantage of total surprise and the noise of the grenade the turians had just chucked at TIM and Co. to cover his approach from behind. Also, he was wearing pants, though I can't rule out the involvement of a tubesock somewhere in there. That and TIM killed the last one.

Relax, it was a joke.

In the end though it does not matter. Unless BW has giving this silly addition plotarmor, it is dead.

Using anything from a book to alter or negate what we, as the players in the game, did is wrong. This is tantamount to letting my FanFiction make changes and additions to your game.

The appearance of an established character of the Mass Effect universe who happens not to have had any actual screentime yet but was written into the world by the same folks who have written every other character into it... Is not going to negate anything you have anything to do with.

Sorry, that was a rant about Anderson and the Council. It's been really annoying me since I heard about it.
But seriously. If Kai Leng is just that good, why bring Shepard back? From what I've seen, he could have taken the Collectors all by himself. If there is a Mary Sue in ME, it is him.

I don't think Kai Leng is nearly that good though. As for why to bring Shepard back if they're on even ground, well, it all comes down to something both TIM and Miranda stated. Needed a born leader who inspires a fire in the hearts of others. Leng is definitely more the "kill everything and ignore everyone sans the boss" sort. Wouldn't work as well.

If you've ever played World of Warcraft, then picture a firgue similar to Thrall in Cataclysm, but a villain.
If you haven't played WoW, then picture this-

That knife he's holding is the same one used to kill the krogan that landed him in prison.

Don't knock toothbrushes. Just about anything can be used as a weapon. Don't believe me? Hope you don't find yourself in prison.

Thane took out an Asari commando merc and other well trained Eclipse mercs in hand to hand not even giving them a chance to shoot. He also walked into a shadow and disappeared from the enemy's sight. A second later he dropped down behind him and broke his neck. Thane also made another magic disappearing act at some point in ME2. Also Thane has a perfect memory allowing him to learn from every single mistake he has made and even memorize many skills easily.
Kai leng isn't really that much of a mary sue. He is good as hell and maybe up there with Thane (Thane is older and sick) but he isn't a sue.
