Some of the old nes, snes, genesis games proved to be difficult for many without cheat codes like
Gaiares
Battletoads
Ninja Gaiden
Silver Surfer

-Original Megaman
-Hard Reset insane mode
-TW2, Arena mode. I know some have done much better than me, but I find this to be one of the hardest modes I have ever played. Dark mode difficulty is f*cking sadistic.

ME2: Horizon - Human Reaper
DAO: Killing the Dragons and defeating Loghain
Those 90s games that in their missions they have small places to jump or you fall, also.

Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania being particularly aggresive with this. Especially when combined with enemies that hit you as you jump and make you fall into a pit.

Nope. I could name levels or entire games that were hair pulling in difficulty, but the pattern is always the same: lose, repeat, memorize, overcome. Once that happens it gets steadily easier until one day, it isn't hard at all. The only time I've ever felt anything resembling hate is directed inward, when I screw up in a way I shouldn't have and lose because of it.
And then came Street fighter.

Street Fighter is extremely easy in single player. It's difficulty doesn't compare to the average SNK game or Guilty Gear at maxed difficulty; and those aren't too hard either once you figure them out. The only challenge is in competing with people, and that isn't the same thing.

I couldn't manage the jump and grab a pipe bit in Ninja Gaiden
I was hopeless at the stealth section of Syphon Filter
I had to give up on the final boss of saga frontier 2
etc

Oooh yeah, there were some of the Seymour fights in FFX that were just ridiculous unless you spent a lot of time grinding. There were times where it seemed like he would attack four/five times in a row.
I found most boss fights in FFX were simply a matter of getting Yojimbo early and then on every boss fight summon him pay him lots - boss dead
(though the evil versions of summonings were still tough)
