Star Wars uses hyperspace and that explicitly doesn't use normal space.
Similarly, Starcraft uses hyperspace (they just call it warpspace a la WHO40K)
Starship troopers may be but in the novels, heinlein doesn't actually talk about either HOW or WHAT the FTL drive system does...

Wasn't Star Wars retconned? IIRC, they use to "jump to lightspeed".

Also, Starcraft is a giant 40K ripoff. Except it's no where near as cool.

Wow, you actually think 40K is cool?

That explains so much about you. F***ing grimdark baby.

Your dissing 40k?

Bad move.

Oh, goody. A GW vs. Blizzard fanboy war.

Not really.. GW is a bit pile of fail in many respects too.

But GW are better writers when it comes to writing plots in their games, unlike Bioware.

I never did understand HOW someone could find zealously religious space marines fighting demons with chainsaw-swords cool.

I'm not even kidding, I think 40k is f*cking retarded, both in idea and execution.

40k retarded?Posted Image
Have you even read the backstory to it? Posted Image

I was referring more to some of their policies and their customer relations. I don't collect miniatures myself, but I know the people who do and a bit of research has kept me away from that hobby. GW will skin you alive.

Oh yes, THAT. well I say 100% yes to that (prices for their miniatures does suck your credit card dry).

In that case you must be a souless individual with no sense of cool, epicness, or style.

Mass Relays are instantaneous, but FTL between systems in a cluster is not.

I can't imagine it's too fast though. A mass relay connects Sol and Arcturus, and those stars are only 37 light years apart.

The fastest non-Reaper ship is the Normandy. So it would break down like this:
Normandy SR2 < Collector Cruiser < Reaper

Question: How many light years can be traveled in 24 hours on the Normandy?

Examples:

USS Sulaco (Aliens) - 0.74 light years per day

USS Enterprise (Star Trek) - 4.51 light years per day

UNSC Pillar of Autumn (Halo) - 2 to 3 light years per day

Covenant Ships (Halo) - 900+ light years per day

FTL is approximately FML - so fast you'll brown ur trousers Posted Image

IDK, but the DSS Aleksander(Starcraft: Brood War) can travel at 333+ light years per day.

^^^ implying that 40k isn't an "Aliens" ripoff

USS Enterprise (Star Trek) - 4.51 light years per day

assume average distance between stars in one ME location 10ly.
assume average travel time from A to B 5s.

=>average speed 2ly/s => 173'000 light years per day

Nice drive. Dont need mass effect with that FTL.

It's +1mph faster than what the current speed of light is. Answer solved. Faster than Light.

186,000 miles per second

11,160,000 miles per minutes

669,600,000 miles per hour

16,070,400,000 miles per day

5,865,696,000,000 miles per year (1 light year)

The Normandy travels approx 1 light year every 2 hours, so...

It travels 293,284,000,000 miles per hour

It travels 48,880,800,000 miles per minute

It travels 814,680,000 miles per second.

Basically, it travels pretty damn fast.

EDIT:  The distance from the earth to the sun is 92,955,807 miles.  Just to give a little scale to the speed.
