what if the person who "died" on virmire isn't really dead?

Why is it unlikely? The reapers are powerful and intelligent they could trick him into accessing a beacon similar to those of the protheons. Shepard then would have to deal with his quilt. After-all Shepard's sstrength comes from his ability to feel like he's protecting something he cares for. If They tormented him by this he would have difficulty stopping them. If anything it could be a side mission where Shepard has to face them via a dream until he eventually comes to terms with it. The leak did say he was still bothered by it. Just ideas I've thought up...

The VS didn't die, he/she was propelled sky high by the explosion and fished by Sovereign. Just like it happens in cartoons and Pokemon with Team Rocket. Duuuh!!!

There's no way the VS survives the explosion, he's too close from the bomb and the geth aren't that fast to do a extraction before the nuke explodes.

Of course, there's always the possibilty he found a refrigerator near him.

Now my memory is a bit fuzzy since I havn't played ME1 in some time, but I am pretty sure the explosion seen from space was big enough that it will probably ruin the planets ecology for centuries to come.

If the VS survived that they are either a figment of shep's imagination or one hell of a wizard.

Even if they could revive another person, to do that to the VS would be imposeable since not only would the body be destoryed, but the brain as well.

Nope. She used a vehicle:

"Sorry. Rana Thanoptis. You let me go when you destroyed Saren's lab on Virmire. Had to outrun a nuke in a utility pod, but it's still a second chance."

Also, she had a hell of a lot more time, and wasn't already killed (the fate of those left with the salarians) or wounded, unable to walk, and leaning against the nuke when it exploded.

If you left Kaidan/Ash with the Salarians, they are wounded, if you go to savet he person with the bomb there is no way they out ran it and if you don't rescue the person witht he bomb we see them with a shot in their gut as they kill on last Geth, they look at the Normandy then bang. Who ever you left in Virmire is dead, deader then dead.

Because the writers did not will it to be so.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ashley again, but I can't really picture a scenario where it would be a good thing. It's why it's nice to have different playthroughs to see what happens to Kaidan as the VS, and a different Shepard to have Ashley alive.

Not if there was a large refrigerator in the Virmire base. Actually that's highly likely. Looks like Kaiden will live after all.

ALways thought they where wounded since if you go up to save them, you see they are wounded. If they are dead then that just reinforces that the person left is dead.
