I wouldn't be surprised if they were still alive.
If we were to go by comic book/soap opera/anime/every-other-work-of-fiction rules, THEN it's entirely possible. If you don't see a body, then they're still alive. And there's usually a 70% chance they come back evil, with some kind of vendetta against the protagonist.
Hell, I won't be surprised if they were rebuilt and indoctrinated by the Reapers, therefore becoming a secondary antagonist to Shepard in ME3.

I never liked Ashley and that is why I got rid of her 8 times by leaving her at the bomb and I go and get kaiden with the salarains. Now seeing her new sexiness for 3 it makes me want to go and create a new play through from the first game.

Do you lot really think whoever you left behind on Virmire survived? I can tell you that whoever you left behind on Virmire died because no one and nothing can survive a nuclear or thermonuclear blast.Off-topic but related you know how Indiana Jones survived a nuclear test blast in a lead-lined refrigerator in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that will not work in real-life because even if the lead was sufficient to shield you from the intense radiation the intense heat from the blast would vaporize you pretty much instantly.God this is a really silly thread.

Yeah a bomb to the face really helps in bringing people back.......on the other hand taking a bomb 5 - 20 minuets out does wonders too you've got 5 - 20% less chance of total evaporation! <_<
Seriously shep being able to be brought back after burning up in the atmosphere, crashing into a planet, and somehow not shattering into a billion pieces was bad enough now you want me to suspend my belief and say VD is somehow coming back from the dust stage? Sorry can't do it. The only way both of these horrible plot bunnies work out is 1: Sheps a cylon and 2: VD is a cylon which would also suck!
