Help me please I am about to give up and play a human despite wanting to try one of the elven origins.
Is there a particular preset that's best to start with?
My main problem is that all the eye shapes seem too feminine looking except for one that just looks stupid.

Elves are inherently "bishie." It's like their oldest stereotype. My advice is... just live with it.

It's in the nose and jaw. If you slightly increase the size of your elf's nose and give him a squarer jaw, he'll look a lot more masculine than the eyes will make him feminine.
Gavian was my test to make a human-looking elf (like Loran was my test to make an exceedingly elvish-looking human), and that's the biggest thing I did for him. You should be able to see him in my profile to get what I mean, though he's not attractive by any measure.

I find the eleves to manly actually every elf I made was to ugly/manly to play until I took the toolset and made mine look very feminine, but thats just me i'm extremely fem and I get mistaken for a girl so I like them to be "pretty" but the default for the Dalish if you change the hair style would be male maybe make the face a little more square and you'll be ok.

Well, yeah, I dunno what to tell you except to try looking at other players' elves for inspiration. My mage on the left here looks young, but not feminine, and I have two other male elves in the My Characters link if you're interested. If you want to browse through everyone's characters, check out the My Games > Browse Dragon Age Origins Player Profiles button to the top left under your avatar. Unfortunately, there isn't any way to narrow down the list by origins (yet? *expectant look in BioWare's direction*). Fudzie's advice is pretty good, but I recommend also paying attention to the forehead and hairstyle.

I also made this morph you could use if you're on the PC. He isn't very handsome, but he's not horribly ugly, and could be a good base, if you're comfortable working with .mrh files.
