has anyone done that? I played through the first time on normal with a tank warrior. Eventually I brought range into play with spells and archers but I never considered picking off the outer weak guys before taking the alpha of a group along with everyone else. I pretty much played the whole game starting every fight with my warrior leading everyone right into the mess. Has anyone played through on hard this way?
Playing on hard without any ranged fighting...

my first play-through was this, except for Wynne on heals and random staff-work.

It depends if you count Mage staffs/CC/Heals as 'ranged fighting'. I didn't finish the whole game but I did roll a "Melee Heavy" config with 2-handed warrior PC/Alistair/Zevran/(Usually Morrigan for Heal/Sleep.)
If I were to plan such a melee heavy group, I would make a DW rogue with Bard, because the Bard buffs are so handy for melee classes imo. (And that Distracting Song is amazing.)

Best bet for this sort of run is to lay traps, set ambushes, and take advantage of Distracting Song and Dread Howl as much as possible.
I also hope that we get one more DLC party member because I really want to try a 4-rogue run through.
