also sexbot? Bioware doesn't develop things like that, all of their characters and relationships have some sort of depth.

All jokes aside, It's actually a mech specialized for infiltraton.

I might agree with that, if not for the fact that only BSG has really done this at least in recent years, and it would be the same freaking actress that played the seductive human-AI in the tv series.

No, they must not do Joker/EDI. It's an insult to their only "differently abled" character if he can only get a synthetic woman, and it would be a cheap, lame, projectile-vomit-inducing move derivative of BSG and capitalizing on Tricia Helfer's major claim to fame. It takes her role from being "a gal Data would've loved to hang with, whose conversations with Legion are awesome" to being "the creepy computerized woman-child who is conveniently molded into Joker's perfect Cortana-girlfriend, making every female who comes within a mile of ME3 cringe with revulsion." There is so much wrong with the idea that I can't even begin to express my nausea at the thought, and it has only grown with the passing months.

Let's do the Solomon test--am I being influenced by my love of Joker/Shepard, here? No. Because Joker/EDI makes me immediately scream, "Give him a girlfriend! Force me to watch them make out every time I walk on board the Normandy! Make him giggle and blush, whatever, just don't take away my EDI."

And by "my EDI", I mean the EDI which is an actual interesting character and not a creepy sexploitation robot woman-child. Who, as Sky was saying, IS the Normandy.

Tricia Helfer's looks are exploited all over the place. I like that there is finally a role in which her *acting* has been spotlighted, and that alone. I want them to stick to their guns on that, not cave to the cheesy B-movie appeal of a sexbot.

This is just a rant about why you don't want Joker/EDI rather than any argument about why it would or would not work in ME'verse. I'm sorry Joker/EDI gives you nausea. As you've seen throughout the thread and the rest of BSN, plenty of other people find the idea of the pairing appealing.

Yeah, the fact that fanservice abounds? Means that the two characters who are our only refuge from that rampant fanservice must remain a refuge.

Fin.

Given that we've not seen the character design this fanservice argument is pointless.

The op asks for thoughts about JokerxEDI romance, not a scientific dissertation about pros and cons. I have seen many posts kind of "like it" or "don't like it" without given any reasons. At least I interprete the op in this way, that our personal opinion and our feelings on this is asked for. So I think Wynne is quite right to post her thoughts and feelings on this topic here. Her opinion is as much as relevant than any other opinion from the people here and most notably, she gives us reasons why she don't like it. You and others may not agree with it as others may not agree with your opinions. So let's stay polite - we all love Joker and this is what connects us.

If Bioware wants to do this, they will do this, no matter what any person here on BSN would say to that. But that doesn't mean that everyone is happy with it. I think some people have no problem with this because they already have their favourite character as romance option and don't really care. There was never a real fan base for this, at least I didn't notice. So it is more a "I can live with it because it does not concern me" instead of an "that was excactly what I wished for". And the idea of having an other (very likely) very beautiful character on the Normandy is a positive development for some here too. Maybe some are hoping to get even a EDIxShepard romance. What would happen if Bioware would try to pair Garrus or Tali or some other beloved character with EDI? Would that not feel weird?

My problem is not giving EDI a body. I think EDI would be great without one but I can see that under some circumstances and situations it could be helpful for Shepard. It is more the idea that EDI could transform in a Mass Effect clone of Number Six from BSG and the whole JokerXEDI romance thing. There is more connection between Shepard who rescued Joker and knows Joker from the beginning of Mass Effect than with an AI that is actually the ship. Because many fans wish for Joker to find someone to love and not to be alone anymore it seems that Bioware would solve this request with that. How much an AI developed or not is a suitable relationship partner depends on the opinion of the player. And this is why I hope that this would be an completely optional romance. And for the dedicated fanbase that supports a JokerxShepard romance it would just be horrific to see Joker coupled with EDI, that he hated in the beginning and later compares to his mum. Great. And than EDI is getting a body and now Joker can be happy because a good looking body is everything a healthy relationship needs? Sound silly, sorry, but just my opinion.

It would be interesting to know how far Bioware had evolved their plans for EDI already in the beginning of the series. But I understand what Wynne means - it is not the thought of giving EDI a body but a body that could likely look like Number Six of BSG. Something some people already had in mind when it was clear who EDIs voice actor will be. That is a kind of problem if you have famous voice actors. What if EDI had a male voice actor instead? Would people still be hoping for a EDIxJoker romance? Will people really see only EDI in the game or their personal Number Six on the Normandy? For me I think it will be really an distraction from the game. Bioware could give her a male body. Only because EDI has a female voice means that EDI is female?

There is always the discussion if an AI can develop to such a living being. This may be possible in the Mass Effect universe if Bioware says so, in our real world we are simply not able to answer this question scientifically. You can only ask people if they believe or not but nobody can know this yet. But as this is a fictional universe, maybe it is the case. It still feels kind of hollow if you think how long development normally takes. It is a try-and-error process that needs time. For an AI this maybe a faster process but in my opinion it feels a little cheap and to easy to think that EDI could develop within some months to a perfect being with fully controlled emotions (I mean the kind of control a human has - not fully of course but in the meaning of not totally random and depend on your environment), a "female" mind, a real conscious, a kind of free will and not only following its programing. It is the same for me as Shepards death and resurrection - it just seems to unlikely, even in a science fiction setting to be believable.

I think EDI got a body because she wanted to be human, she wanted something that made her that much closer to Joker, she wanted to give him something she thought he deserved.

Lol at spoilers just flying everywhere, untagged.

****SPOILER****

They would give a squaddie--much less a permanent one--a design as derivative and plain as a LOKI mech's. Even Legion got unique components that sets him apart from other geth. EDI will look like TIM's hot dead girlfriend, Eva. So, if the sexbot creepiness factor wasn't quite sufficient...yes, that happened.

****End Spoiler****

As I told a friend of mine, he's already inside her ; )

Also, after looking up the virtual aliens on the ME wiki it does seem possible that he could upload himself to the Normandy or she could transfer into the body of a person that was willing to trade places. With a lot of help from the virtual aliens of course, if they were willing to help.

I was just stating that I didn't want to respond to a rant like it was an argument, not that the post had no validity.

I'm get where you're coming from on some of your other points but I've already talked about how I feel regarding AIs and gender/development etc.

I agree that JEDI (I really hope this shipname takes off) is probably something that no player consider at the start of ME2- but that doesn't change the fact that BW wrote a cute dynamic and introduced a fascinatng new character in EDI. I think the fact there are a large number of people who do ship probably indicates how well this pairing was written and introduced in 2. With regards to hypothetical pairings, sure I'd like to have seen BW do Tali/EDI or Grunt/EDI or whatever. But they didn't. They did do this.

Romance between them is stupid and makes joker seem pathetic... not to mention the brittle bones..

However having them banter and tease each other more is okay.

I also wouldnt mind being able to romance him as female shephard

If Joker's brittle bones would get in the way of a romance with Edi, wouldn't his brittle bones also get in the away of a romance with Shepard?
