Her main reason for liking you in Mass Effect 1 is because he was touched by the prothean beacon. Also, she was always a loner until you saved her. Is her love for Shephard genuine? Include LOTSB if you must.

Liara is interested in Shepard by the prothean Beacon and the fact that he saved her, yet if he chooses to romance her she and him get close. She always cares about how Shepard really is. She can see right through him. Even if you don't romance her she causes an emotional stir up inside of Shepard, even to the point of him always saying come back soon. She's a good friend of his because she's always there regardless of if he returns the crush she has. She's torturing herself to be around him, but she needs to be around him because of this false closeness he gives her.

In this case, wouldn't Liara be the one soliciting Shepard?

I've always imagined a weird scenario where Shepard totally freaks out when Liara does the black-eyes embrace eternity sh!t. He'd let out a girly scream and deck Liara across the face. She'd land on the floor face down with one hand twisted behind her back Family Guy style.

Second-hand knowledge. She's one of the most (in)famous obsessive-stalkers in modern Japanese manga history. Sort of like how you can know about Twilight, and how creepy it is, without reading Twilight or paranormal romances. Some things are just so extreme, you look them up.

The series isn't a love drama, it's a sci-fi/fantasy one about people with diaries that read the future... and these people are forced into a game of killing eachother off. One of them is a super-obsessed stalker. Her diary updates her about what the object of her obsession is doing every ten minutes into the future. All day, every day, no matter what he's doing.

And she is absolutely, indisputably insane. At one point she murders a child, and that's actually one of the more reasonable things she does.

Unlike Twilight, which plays obsession as romantic, the creepiness of Yuno is kind of the point. She's become a noun and a verb and an adjective in anime circles.

Somehow even Tali's love feels more genuine than most of the rest, and I don't have a Shepard romancing her.
The VS!romance arc needs ME3 to feel more genuine since we still only have that crappy Horizon-scene. That letter doesn't fix all damage.

What Mass Effect 2 gave us was two tsunderes (tough exterior-soft interior) to vie for Shep's attentions.

What Mass Effect 3 needs is two yanderes fighting for Shep's attentions, and brutally murdering all rivals for their obsession.

The names are japanese, but they aren't distinct to Japanese literature. They just work well as a single word. (Sort of like how scheadrenfrued has no english equivalent.)
