Seriously Terror. Deal with it.

Seriously?! If that's your attitude and the attitude of BioWare and the ME dev team these days, then to hell with you guys. You claim to care about the universe you've made and that you listen to fans, and yet you insist on giving all of us the middle-finger who actually care about the integrity, consistency and logic of the lore and precedence that you originally set.

Why should I care about what started off as a great sci-fi universe when the developers just clearly don't any more? When they can have an entire second act that centres around the main character getting spaced, dying and coming back to life because of the dangers of space, only for it to be trivialised for the entire rest of the series due to things like cleavage holes, nipple-straps, breathing masks and the like.

Yeah... way to stay true to your own work and way to try and keep fans with that attitude. If this is how ME3 is handled as a whole, the whole game is fail and the whole Mass Effect universe --one that started so well-- is bin-worthy now.

I love how you say "these days" like Chris Priestly has ever been any other way.

There's another one where Shepard with a helmet and Liara are fighting a Cerberus agent with a big shield and you can see the "straps" of Liara's breathing mask on the back of her neck too.

That doesn't prove anything, since you can let your Shep have the helmet on at all times.

Think of it as a hommage to The Empire Strikes Back.

Why not? We like the breathing masks as evident by them returning. Terror doesn't, which is fine, but they aren't going to change. There are elements in ME that are not 100% science. These are done because teh team likes the way they look or work in ME. While not 100% good science, we feel they make for good game.

So... deal with it.

But it doesn't add to the gameplay at all. It doesn't even impact on it. It's purely aesthetic, and a completely juvenile and pathetic one at that that spits in the face of sensibility just for the sake of... I don't even know what!

I'm leaning towards "It's not a big deal" side. What will make or break ME3 for me is the overall quality of the writing and gameplay, not whether or not I can see Liara's face when in a vacuum.

^this

I'm not really paying that much attention to what my squadmates are wearing when Shep is busy blowing peoples heads off.

You can explain all incorrect science with the words "mass effect fields".

I know it's tiny thing, but it's one of the reason I'm not hyped. There are just too many dumb things in ME3.

Well if they do the breather mask route, I hope they don't force Shepard to wear his helmet in a vacuum. I want to see my Shepard's pretty face too.

Artistic vision. Maybe you're disrespecting something here? Maybe they're being honest about liking something they implemented in a previous game? Think about it. Lore can manage without intricate accuracies in breather mask functioning, it's science fiction. Artists, however, have some say in the work they provide. And it'll sometimes fail to coincide with your wishes and understandings of what 'is true' to given foundation. No need to turn it into personal insults.

I'll just repost what I wrote in Casey Hudson says.

Ahem:

You don't know exactly why she's wearing the mask. Might be the next room is filled with poison gas. Or they're on a world where there's a nasty airborne disease that only affects asari. :)

I mean, Shep and Vega wear neither mask nor helmet in that screenshot.

I dont think there was anything wrong with ME2's cast, i loved them.
Secondly. how does breather masks = HOLLYWOOD ACTION OTT MOVIE?
Like
come on, theres more things to worry about in the world than breathing masks. maybe its just me with this opinion. but really? debating over breather masks?

As the Mars mission is practically at the beginning of the game, that will likely be the one mission where you don't get to decide who comes. Making it the one mission where you can legitimately complain about this issue.

I thought it was silly there too.

Not as silly as landing your ship inside a giant space worm's stomach, but still.

It's purely aesthetic, sure.  So are tons of things in the first game, like the fact that there are sound effects in deep space, or the fact that spacecraft maneuver like aircraft.  Or the fact that the Asari all look like human women with little head tentacles.  Or the fact that they're all slender and attractive.

Not to mention the fact that the Mass Effect -itself- is a silly handwave to make things that are physically impossible viable for the sake of telling a fun story.

This is -not- hard Sci-fi, Terror.  It never was, and this "integrity" that you're imagined into existence only seems credible to you because you have -already- accepted that sci-fi as a matter of course discards the laws of physics and reality when it is inconvenient.

Yeah, people love to forget that Mass Effect is science fiction, not science.

:bandit:<--- Oh no! It's a ban-- I mean breathing mask!

Not everything is going to be right down to the letter, science-wise, or just in general for that matter.

Not a issue through my eyes.

Collector ship, LotSB, Tali's loyalty, the last cutscene in the Reaper IFF, a bunch of side missions. All of these had breathing masks (depending on who you brought, of course).
