Breathing masks?! AGAIN?!

Shepard is the only thing that's keeping me coming back to the ME series now. As far as the universe that's presented, it seems like Rule of Cool and the whims of the artists/writers/producers won out over keeping the integrity of the setting that was introduced in ME1.
I've gone over this a thousand times in the past, but it seems like not even the fans (save a very few) care about the consistency of the ME verse or the setting that they're buying into; expecting that quality of worldbuilding and attention to detail is apparently only a naive expectation when applied to a world-class development studio (or maybe that's the problem).
So again, whatever. If Bioware thinks that the ****ing plastic masks look cooler than a proper space helmet with a visor... who am I to question their definition of "cool"? Hell, personally I think that they only gave Liara a facemask because they didn't want to go to the trouble of tweaking her outfit to allow for an actual helmet, let alone designing the actual helmet, but eh.
TBH I still find ME2, the internal logic of the setting and the story, to be such a stupid departure from the original that I pretty much have to force myself to play it nowadays. Maybe that just means that 2/3 of the ME series will simply never appeal to me like the first game did, but I'm willing to accept that.
As long as the fanboys don't keep going on about "anything goes because it's FICTION!" and "everything still makes sense because of MASS EFFECT FIELDS!", and are actually willing to admit that the setting has shifted towards more of a fantasy/unreality style of sci-fi (moreso than ME1 at least), then I'm willing to accept Bioware's change in vision.
Even if I don't particularly like it, and I think that relentless integrity of a creator's artistic vision is paramount in creating an immersive fictional world worth discussion (if the creator doesn't care about the setting, why should the fans, right?), I'm pretty well past worrying about it.
Cheers, OP!

Simply giving players a choice would have prevented this entire, ugly topic.
IDK, people seem to be upset by having Action, Story and RPG mode. It seems like someone's going to whine no matter what they do or do not let you choose because people... well... whine.
That's because no one as I can ever recall ever asked for an Action, Story, or RPG mode. To be honest I don't think many people will appreaciate those modes and the effort put into them was a waste of time. I can sort of see the purpose for Story Mode since some people are not Pro-Gamers and found ME2 somewhat hard to play.
Numerous folks on the other hand have asked for helmets and there not to be anymore breathing masks.
Imagine someone asks what you want for $10. You say you want a hat. Instead you get gloves. Perhaps they mean well, but the end result leaves everyone ultimately worse off. Granted I don't think Bioware specifically ever asked whether we liked breathing masks, but if people are coming to you to with an alternative perhaps it might be a good idea to listen and even give it a shot? You make things for the customers, not yourself.
And people were complaining about the masks since the game released, so this isn't new. It seems dense to insist on having something a lot of people don't really want.
Maybe I like 2 wheels on bicycle and see that as the most optimal self transportation form. But if people want 3 wheels the onus is on me to make a tricycle. That or risk losing work I suppose. Generally speaking I incorporate people's feedback into my work whenever possible.

I don't want a lot of things in ME. I don't whine about them or have serious entitlement issues. You do.
