The problem with the breathing masks I've seen is that they don't look functional at all. They aren't attached to anything (so using them in space makes no sense) and they don't appear to have a filtration system of any kind.

The problem is they look a little ridiculous while fighting in outerspace. Is it a game breaker? No. Is it as silly as cleavage armor and high heels? Yes. It's hard to take seriously

Unless they replaced that portion of your armour with a mass effect field. ... I dunno, do you think Shepard would look silly going into battle with a bare midriff while pregnant? If so, do you still support breathmasks? (Hah! Back on topic! )

FAIL. Mass effect is going to Bomb, a crap game ruined By EA which wants to attract the call of duty crowd.  Breathing masks are another proof that bioware don't care anymore about the story, and its true devoted fanbase. If they really listen to us, they wouldn't do such a crap again.

Terror_K is absolutely right about this, its just one more drop in quality amidst all the rest.

Mass Effect 1 was an awesome Sci-Fi game, with a great setting and atmosphere. I almost felt like a astronaut sometimes when I played, exploring the uncharted worlds.

Mass Effect 2 was all about guns and ******. I like guns and ******, but I'll play Duke Nukem for those. When I play Mass Effect I want some damn Sci-Fi.

Seriously, ME2 established that you can use breathers in a near-vacuum. If ME3 decided to change that, it would ruin series consistency and destroy my immersion.
