I honestly don't think it's a big deal.

In this type of pulp sci-fi, the emphasis is always on the "fi." It's a form of fantasy, really. The "sci" part just means it's set in the future (or a futuristic setting) and involves technology.

Why the only mission from which i remember Breathing masks was Legions Loyalty Mission?

Collector ship, LotSB, Tali's loyalty, the last cutscene in the Reaper IFF, a bunch of side missions. All of these had breathing masks (depending on who you brought, of course).

Well Legion and Garrus mostly.

Heh, then it seems that i dont give a damn about those damn masks :)

Thanks for the list though.

On the very comprehensive list of "What bugs me in Mass Effect", breathing masks are definitely closer to the bottom for me. It's hardly the perfect solution, but it works. And if you don't support the idea, why not try a topic providing an alternative solution? You know, instead of heading back to...

mindless, over-the-top modern Hollywood action movie

I get where you're coming from, but it I'm not sure this is one worth fighting over.

Watch this.

Not any sillier than faster than light travel, or asteroid fields where weaving is nessecary, or the fact that later in the same movie, they fly from one star system to another -at sublight- and it takes a matter of days or weeks rather than years, or the idea of "desert planets" or "city planets" or "frozen tundra planets" or "forest planets".  Or that people can make things float through the air or see the future.  Or laser swords.  Or any of a million other things that make Star Wars completely absurd to anybody who has  passing knowledge of physics.

Laser swords can actually work in real life.

I love how, out of all of that, you took the -one- example that you -feel- could actually be credible and ignored all the others like it's relevant to the point.  But I'd love to hear your explanation of how, exactly, a lightsaber can be constructed in real life, without invoking some other equally unproven technological concept like the typical sci-fi distortion of what force fields are actually capable of.

I'm not big on the breathing masks either, but they aren't a big deal to me.  This what you say here Priestly is kind of a big deal... you guys have turned into complete douchebags.  You're like the freaks and geeks in middle school that went away for the summer and your skin cleared up or you grew some epic boobs and now you are the cool kids and can't be bothered with this geeky stuff.  Only that's not true.  You are actually nowhere near as cool as you used to be, but for some reason you guys act like you're tha bomb now.  Get over yourselves before everyone else does.

Collector Ship, Reaper IFF (still dont believe they had masks there) and Legions Loyalty mission (100%)

Vaccum!

Has Bioware hired Mr Lucas as a consultant? Or is perhaps it Mr Boll? (I can already hear his commentary on the coolness of breathing masks posted on youtube)

I don't know any crystals on Earth that can create plasma, so lightsabers are going to be a tough one.

Of course not! I just think it looks better. I mean that map doesnt even show Batarian space.

Edit: I thought it would give people a better insight of the ME Galaxy in no way are those official just. Someone with spare time making them.

According to Star Wars sources, there's a crystal placed in the hilt that gives a lightsaber its power. Now it's just a matter of finding the crystal. Image IPB

I was joking more or less.

Also that thing can work, just not in same way as in Star Wars.

There IS no batarian space in ME3, afaik. Weren't they almost completely harvested before the Reapers invaded Earth?

I'm with Bioware on this one. Respect is a two-way street, in my book. The opening post was far from an exercise in politeness. There are plenty of ways to express yourself effectively. Ranting is really not one of them.

I have seen that. He talks about four or five parts of Mass Effect IIRC. Cloaking, Space Travel, Space Civilization, Space Communication and Dark Energy/Negative Matter I believe.

That really isn't anything special those issues are expected to be dealt with just like wearing armor/defense in battle and protecting yourself in a vaccuum. If anything that discredits BioWare even more. They are canceling out the "little" things in favor of artistic freedom. How can we expect them to deal with other scientific issues? How can you even build the credibility in an alien's super mega base in the center of the galaxy filled around blackholes. If they just brush aside things like vaccuum exposure? I think it is hilariously stupid for the squad to enter the Collector Base with no masks/helmets at all. Why the hell would the Collectors need oxygen? Let alone the same atmosphere as us?

I thought it was silly there too.

Not as silly as landing your ship inside a giant space worm's stomach, but still.

I don't think it's really a problem of getting laser swords to "work". More like modifying it to be practical.

I didn't say they had masks during most of the mission; it was just during the cutscene after you had completed the mission, when the squad jumps onto the Normandy.

I think you may be over reacting slightly. Surely the aim of the game is to enjoy it rather than care about what the characters are wearing on their faces? I swear they only have it on for a couple of missions anyway.

Seriously BioWare, why do you keep making these stupid mistakes. I thought you said everybody was going to get proper helmets this time, and now we see Liara in one of the latest screens wearing that same stupid LotSB breather mask. It's like you really haven't learned a damn thing about the issues people had with ME2's pyjama squad and are just so concerned about turning Mass Effect into this mindless, over-the-top modern Hollywood action movie that you don't even care about the integrity and consistency of the universe you've created any more.

She's got the best helmet of all time....plot armor. You could hit her with a damn planet and she go "barely a scratch, I'm ready Shepard"

Serious answer: their game, not yours , deal with it.

Why not? We like the breathing masks as evident by them returning. Terror doesn't, which is fine, but they aren't going to change. There are elements in ME that are not 100% science. These are done because teh team likes the way they look or work in ME. While not 100% good science, we feel they make for good game.

So... deal with it.

You...

WHY?
...
What insane breed of logic is that?

Artistic freedom logic.

The whole point of that in science fiction is that you have some shred of credibility to make the science believable (or at least so that you can suspend disbelief).  ME1 made more sincere attempts to be scientifically accurate (like everyone being in air-tight suits in adverse conditions).  You only get so many violations of physics and science before the science fiction loses that plausibility and suspension of disbelief.  Why waste those "freebies" on shallow things like aesthetics when you can instead use them up on more meaningful things like physics-defying stunts?  (If that makes any sense)
