I'm having issues Getting tazpn's MDB utility to work for me when exporting a building from 3ds max.  Basically I have the building and it's detached staircase which I want to have as a walkmesh.   I havent found any decent tutorials on how to export, and when I do, my building shows up without the staircase.

I've selected "walkmesh" in the MDB Utility on the stairs and used the suffix _W on the object's name.  But ever since the stairs have been detached, they will not show up in the toolset.  What am I doing wrong?

the mesh of the staircase can't be the walkmesh too. you have to create another separate object (with very simple geometry!) which acts as the walkmesh. to understand the whole process you should import vanilla content of nwn2 to see how obsidian built their props.

Awesome thanks for that. And yes things seem a lot more clear now.

One quick question, I quickly made a walkmesh for my model and exported it only with that and no C2 or C3 objects or anything, just to see if the walkmesh worked.

It does, however when my pc walks up the stairs, the camera flips upside down and I'm viewing the PC from below instead of above. Is this just because I have no C2 or C3 applied to the model?

Thats correct, you need at min a C3 mesh for the camera to behave correctly.

OK I got my c3 mesh, just a copy of the original model with way less polygons, and the camera is fine now.

However, after making some adjustments to the walkmesh, I get this:

Why all the white lines which now cut off my path onto the stairs?  Originally it was perfect and smooth with only the yellow lines, but now after some stretching and adjusting of the vertices, that happened.

yeah, the walkmesh is a f*ckin' nightmare sometimes. dunno why it flips and flops after exporting but reexporting without touching anything keeps to solve the biggest issues after a few tries :D

Thanks I got it working.  I just remade the mesh using someone else's that worked and modded it to fine my object.  All nice and tidy now with no mess of white lines.:D

I figured there must be some trick to it, but I'll just keep doing it this way I guess which is fine by me!
