Releasing retailer-exclusive promotional content is acceptable if and only if, you announce prior to the game's launch that promotional content will be available to everyone later as DLC.

To do anything less shows a level of disregard and disrespect for the consumer. Thats not a hyperbole or exageration. Retailer-exclusive content is a business decision that favors the Publisher and the Retailers AT the consumer's expense.

As consumers (and I think I speak for everyone here), we're not willing to make any concessions. Not 1% or 1 ounce of concessions for the benefit of Gamestop, Bestbuy or Amazon.

I've learned to tolerate preorder DLC, especially since alot of them are released with other in stuff in DLC down the line.

Can someone link to Amazon pre order bonus (Argus) as I don't see it advertised on amazon.com. I preordered the digital deluxe download.

I think it was only seen on France's amazon website (for now).

Hmm, I hope amazon gets something good for their exclusive DLC. I always pre-order from them because of the awesome .99 cent release day delievery. Gamestop on the other hand wants to charge $9.99 for overnight shipping.. No thanks.

And, if you can deal with the digital deluxe download, you can get it for $71 from Amazon...best price for it in the US, so far.

The only way that GameStop remains successful is because they always get the best killer preorder bonuses and the one they have for ME3 really is the absolute best of them. I'm buying from both amazon.com and gamestop but I hope there will be no more different preorder bonuses....just like ME2 only had two preorder bonuses and one was GameStop exclussive.

Aside from that I am very anxious to see the fully detailed info from Chris so I can evaluate exactly what it will take and what I can do to get the complete ME3 experience.....one not missing any content that is.

I want to pre-order ME3 for the PS3 but if I do, would the code for the pre-order from Gamestop work with the PC version as well? I'd rather get the bonus for the PC instead of the PS3.

Also, does it matter which version I get as long as it's a pre-order from gamestop? If I can, I'd like to save money and just get the standard edition with the pre-order bonus.

You forgot about the Incisor, which was eventually released for everyone along w/ the Inferno.

That was never a retailer exclussive, it was a platform exclussive for buying digital deluxe but it doesn't look like there will be any such nonsense this time around.

I always order from gamestop,so I never mind the pre-order bonuses. I don't understand how people can get so upset over the fact that business(which bioware and EA are) are more concerned with making the most money instead of foregoing money to make sure you are totally happy.
A lot of gamers seem to feel the need to have every item that can be used in-game or that it should have been included in the game. That's not how it works. The game developers decide what makes it onto the disc and what is either going to be used for something like pre-order dlc(sometimes the items are even created for that express purpose).
Now I doubt that I will be able to get every pre-order like last time unless Microsoft screws up like they did with ME2 and has all the bonuses available for download again. Do I hope that all of the pre-order stuff becomes available in the future, sure. But I am already accepting that might not happen.

Happy customers will spend more money. Gamers want to give you their money, so try to make them happy. Do stupid crap and they will withhold some of that sweet, sweet cash that they had been planning on giving you. If enough people withhold this sweet, sweet cash, you will start to feel the emptiness in your pocket. You will eventually realize that making your customer base happy == more money for you.

It seems to me that Exclusive Pre-orders from smaller (IE Not WAL-MART) businesses ensures that they can remain competitive....

And therefore in business....

Yeah, I'm delighted that Walmart isn't in this yet.

I'm just going to stick with supporting a small business down the street though. I don't feel like a gun and armor are worth not giving $80 to a better (imo) cause. Knowing I'm helping keep their doors open makes me feel good. Plus, I've got it worked out with the owner where he's coming down to the store at midnight to sell me a copy so I won't miss out on playing ASAP. :D

To address your first point, I (at least) don't care if they put up the extra items as DLC for $20 or even more. In that case, it would be available to everyone without having to buy more than one copy of the game. Never mind that it's a technique that the business uses to make more money. I just think it's weak for them to use this retailer-exclusive bull**** to artificially inflate sales of the game itself.

Gamestop is outdated and useless,  They resort to cheap anti-competitive tactics by bribing content creators to screw anybody who doesn't buy from them.  They are no different than the mob and the sooner they go out of business the better off the gaming industry will be.  Digital distribution is the future of the gaming industry.

All I can say is that Amazon better have a good pre-order bonus bc I pre-ordered my PC copy of ME3 back on April 9, 2011--which was as soon as I heard there was a ME3 coming out! I, myself, cannot see paying $80 for a collector's edition--I have enough of a hard time deciding to pay $60 for a regular NEW release game.

I just hope that this is as good as ME and ME2 in terms of story-line! I try not to get my hopes up, but it is hard knowing how good BioWare is with storylines...great writers=good games!

Games on demand makes things simpler for someone that has a life constantly on the move...sort of like mine is now but the games industry first needs to get its act together and start providing both regular editions and digital deluxe releases of games on day 1 at midnight.....not months late and lacking CE editions. So while digital downloads may be the future they are nowhere close to becoming mainstream let alone the rule although that could change quickly.....a change I am very open to as soon as XboxLive gets its act together.

Why would you buy the game twice?

^this, but Evil Chris did say that the retailers let the cat out of the bag earlier than expected so we should probably be a little patient waiting to hear something before we harp on them too much.

Hopefully, since Origin is EA's new baby and all, pre-ordering from them will net you all the pre-order DLC. I'm sure that won't be the case, though.
