In another topic, Terror_K noted that breathing masks are back instead of full helmets. Kinda reminds me of seeing people riding motorbikes wearing a helmet, singlet, and shorts, but moving along...

Chris Preistly stated that

We like the breathing masks as evident by them returning. Terror
doesn't, which is fine, but they aren't going to change. There are
elements in ME that are not 100% science. These are done because teh
team likes the way they look or work in ME. While not 100% good science,
we feel they make for good game.

So... deal with it

I was wondering then, how do people on the forums feel about breathing masks or helmets?

Vote here

EDIT: actually called the topic 'Beathing Masks'...

EDIT2: Poll with four options instead of two here

I want both;

We keep breathers for levels that involve poisonous fumes (assuming they don't attack through the skin) and oxygen-low worlds.

Have helmets for vacuum and other levels where you should be SEALED.

EDIT: I want-a both...a!

I'd love collapsible helmets, tbh.

The vote is pointless; I think pretty much everyone would prefer helmets over breathing masks, but if Bioware isn"t going at all in this way, you won't see everybody screaming about that either.

There are maybe some concerns more important, like for example, customization, choices, squadmates, for example. We still don't know how it works really..

Do it the DA:O way. Helmets on in combat, helmets off during conversations.

Honestly, i like helmets more, collapsible or otherwise. They make more sense to me. but the outrage over breathing masks, is effin absurd.

same here, the masks looked stupid but i just in those cases used Garrus,Tali,Legion and problem solved, no need to rage.

Breathing masks are OK for low oxygen environments, not for vacuum or otherwise hazardous ones.

I sense this breathing mask topic will be persisting for the next week.

Discussing pointless topics to death. Just another day at BSN.

This reminds me of a Donnstar topic, but civil.

I prefer the option to have helmets, but I don't care that they're keeping the face masks.

My topic was civil. It just got derailed by the same typical A-grade dicks.

I don't care either way about the breathing masks, I don't see what all the fuss is about.

they are just people complaining about how their precious "immersion" will get broken because of this.

Well, everyone has their pet peeves right? So why are we complaining about others complaining about their pet peeves? :D

And I don't feel like giving any examples of threads that have gone off on other topics that have been dear to other forum goers, since we each seem to have our own... :bandit:

Breathing Mask doesnt bothering me and it makes for some good jokes with screenshots/ Motivational thread hahaha. Yes I do prefer helmets which makes it look more real but this is something thats not worth investing time over to complain about it. My important thing is that the game stays being as awesome as it has been presented so far.

I'd much rather prefer helmets than breathing masks, it's just more plausible. The only places where breathing masks would be applicable are under environments with gases or an atmosphere that is toxic to inhale but poses no danger to the skin. Now how many of those places are there in the galaxy?

I doubt the Collector ship had an atmosphere that was in room temperature.

Anyway it won't be a dealbreaker for me, it would just be nice to have helmets.

I should start off by saying to Terror K that I am sorry for belittling his concern (in the last thread). While I personally find people who get upset over seemly minor details to be overreacting, that doesn't give me the right to make light of his concern. He is concerned because, for him at least, it is an immersion breaker and anything that breaks our players immersion in the games is taken seriously by the dev team. I only said it in that manner as I know Terror has been here a long time and I thought, from prior conversations, we had a certain raport between us. Obviouly I misjudged the situation and my phrasing was uncalled for.

That being said, the dev team looks at issues like this and makes judgements. They listen to fans and, when possible, work to accomodate as many fans as possible. It is listening to them like this that has created things like helmet toggles to try to accomodate a wide variety of interests. There are reasons to have breathing masks in game. And I don't mean "the team was too lazy to make helmets" or whatever, but some fine story based reasons (like one area where "someone" has vented the atmosphere out of a room you are passing through). The team has spent a lot of time making facial animations and dialogs that we want you to see faces for. Now, as I mentioned, toggles, situations where masks are appropriate, etc so sometimes you will see a breathing mask. Hopefully people will look at it and eitehr accept it, or at worst begrudgingly understand why they were used.
