I'm glad to see Bioware at least twicked Ash's face for ME3 when I
orignally saw Ash's new ME3 look/design in Gameinformer Ash's face
looked......  how to word this........ um..... that she had some rather
male looking features most notably was she looked like she had a five
0'clock shadow growing in and she had some rather weird checks.

She looked like a dude trying to have a sex change or something.

So I really can't complain about this look it, for me it beats the hell out of what I'd first seen of Ash for ME3.

I
do did feel that Ash's needed her skin to be more darker tan, in ME1
she looked like she had some Hispanic. And I hope I don't offend anyone
by wording it this way, but for me Ash's old look Hispanic look I loved
it was more exotic it really made her look like a naturally beautiful
woman.

I personally prefer her with her hair down, in fact that's
one thing I didn't like about her old look. But that's more of a
personal preference of mine.

I can see where people would say
she's been Mirandafied but to me I don't think so, I just think  people
are not used to seeing Ash in this sort of outfit and with her hair
down.

Oh and after seeing this pic I think Bioware maybe has darkered her skin tone to have more of a Hispanic look.  But she now looks like she could grow a five 0'clock again. But the setting, lighting area, graphics and shadows of the game at this point may be what's causing it.

I don't see cause for the hostility towards the OP. The comparison isn't really about them as characters, it's how BioWare is choosing to present them. They look quite similar in the clothes they wore and how their hair was styled. For Ashley's it's particularly bad to shift from a mostly sensible and pragmatic kit to this. It seems clear that BioWare have a role in mind for Ashley in ME3 that Miranda filled in ME2: sex appeal to sell games. They're just doing it in an utterly base and insulting way.

I completely agree that Bioware has seemingly lost a fair amount of sense lately (Demonize me if you must, but the fact that their logo now includes "A division of EA," is a clear indication of why.) regarding how they portray their characters and story; I can say;

From the leaked script, it seems that Ash is still very much Ash, just wrapped in some Commando Barbie marketing scheme, so I can't say that ME3 will be a complete disappointment. She's still the Marine tomboy that her fans have grown to love very much,

Ok I gotta say I don't get people who don't see the similarities.  They aren't exactly the same admittedly but new Ash looks more like Miranda than Orianna (you know her twin) did.  Not a huge fan of the new look (Ash was fine the way she was) but I'm not particularly bothered by it.  So yeah, as the OP says Ash looks similar to Miranda.  As long as her personality doesn't follow suit I can live with it.

If the game didn't have a at least one sexed up female, the whole franchise would implode in on itself. What more explanation is needed?

I'm willing to accept this premise but I'd be interested to know why they went with that look.  I mean if they were dead set on making Ash "sexed up" for lack of a better term why make her look like Miranda, so many other ways they could have gone with it.

Not surprised that Ash has her hair down... before she couldn't, military, she had to have short hair, in her case, tied in a bun.. Now she's a Spectre. She can do whatever she wants.

Yes she can but, and I hate being this guy, running around a battlefield with unrestrained long hair isn't particularly smart.  It can get caught in things, obscure your vision, catch fire, etc.  She can let her hair down but for someone who claims that being an Alliance soldier is "in their blood" I don't see her just chucking the rule book out the window because she can.

Oh Ashley. Let your hair down, put on some makeup, and people see you as a goddess. BUT you were beautiful all along. She's been sexier than Miranda since ME1 people! SINCE ME1!!!

Was another one of these topics really necessary? I mean, were 2 months away from release and people act like this nagging is gonna make a damn difference.

Beautiful - yes.
Sexier? Hmmm ... not sure. Then again, I don't really value women 'cause of their "sexiness". Character & beauty comes first - and both make a woman sexy. B)

Overall I think Ash was very beautiful in ME1 - loved her eyes & brows and her darker complexion. She also has a cute nose.

Her hair down adds some more beauty ... wasn't necessary in my eyes but hey, can live with that.

I know I posted it somewhere before, but I'll post it again just to reiterate.

I like her letting her hair down because it also symbolizes her not being tangled in formalities, like she used to be in the previous 2 games.

Anyway... Were you saying Miranda has better chracter and beauty than Ashley? Never thought I'd hear YOU say that, Data.

First: I know, that's why I don't see a problem with her "hair down". Okay, it's stupid to have that hairstyle in the battlefield - maybe we can pick Ashley's hairstyle, so that's not an issue.

Second: Never said that. I think Ashley's character is better than Miranda's while Miranda comes with more sex appeal. They're pretty much even in the package. I'm more a character person, therefore I go for Ashley.
(Hope this statement didn't feel offending) :innocent:

Yep could sound offensive. Both are equally well made characters. If you prefer Ashley's character makeup that's fine but it doesn't make her a better character. They are designed to be very different people.

I lack the right words or something. In my eyes and for my taste Ash -is- the better character. It doesn't mean Miranda lacks character. If I had to choose between both, I'd go for Ashley since I like her character more. It's still a close decision since I also like Miranda's character, although it's a great deal different.

So it's a matter of taste. I'd prefer Miranda over Ashley in case she had more traits in her character I value more than in case of Ashley.

Just for the record ... Miranda comes really close to Ashley for me. Next character is Tali and then, with some distance, Liara. "Romanceable" for my Shepard's are only those first three while the rest works as friends but not as lovers. Matter of taste. ;)

I added something wright1978 ...

Romanceable characters are - for my Shepards:
Ashley
Miranda
Tali

While any other female characters are more or less "friends". And even Tali should be more a friend than a lover since it puts her in danger to have a physical relationship with Shepard.

My Main shep is deeply disillusioned with the Alliance so that's put a gulf between him and even Ashley even as friends. I do have a diff Shep somewhere i was planning at some point to complete who would be a better mesh with Ashley's character and see that romance through. Currently though i can't bring myself to re-play the game as i'm feeling a bit deflated and disillusioned.

Guess we need ME3 fast then, wright1978 ^^

I can't really get my ass moving regarding next playthrough. Two are done, one is still ME1. I do have an old Shepard with Liara as LI, I stopped playing it somewhere near Virmire.

Think I'll prepare one playthrough for Miranda once ME3 is out and either continue old Liara-run or do a new one. Not decided yet. My first three playthroughs have Ash as romance and differ only in details.

lol I'm so glad that's there's someone else feeling the same way
I'd say Biowares attempt to make her 'sexier' backfired except most people really do seem to think her tranny look is hot.
They should just have stuck with the old design (she wore tons of make-up back then too -and apparently makeup=sexy - but without looking like a transvestite)

Yeah, I don't get ugly or tranny from the pics. I do prefer the old look - CptData's profile pic is a prime example.

Lets hope for an option to give Ash her bun if needed.
On the other hand, I don't have issues with open hair as I stated before. I do have issues with those white pants ... which could be replaced / modded ... whatever.

Seems so. Of course, Ashley's looks are a matter of taste, not everyone likes it. However ... uhh ... Ash doesn't look like a transvestite. Seriously.
