However, in the interest of both parties, here are points represented thus far (minus the hogwash):
- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim sales show that there is growth in the RPG market.
- The sales of Skyrim were due to two points: console gamers being exposed to Oblivion and the past Fallout games, which were different from traditional console titles, lead to a rising interest in open-world RPGs; the second point was good marketing.
- Aside discussing what good marketing is, it is impossible to directly compare two games that, though loosely affiliated with the same genre, are completely different experiences.
- The past few console generations have not had games that defined a benchmark in the gaming industry. Instead, it has been concepts and consumers who have defined the industry.
- Companies need to appeal to new consumers in order to grow, though it should be done without sacrificing their consumer base.
- Gameplay features, such as combat, should be improved/refined if they need to be, even if they are not the main draw of the title.
- Review scores, as touted by Metacritic, are an oversimplified way to "represent" the value of a game, but numbers are no true indication of the experience. It's better to read and analyze when determining if a product is right for you.
