I need a purpose. I can't get immersed in games in which your purpose is to wander aimlessly until you find one. Couldn't ever get into Morrowind or Oblivion for the lack of purpose and lacklustre story. The highpoint of the latter for me was breaking out of the dungeon right at the start. Plus the combat system is riddled with problems. So never picked up skyrim, I just don't understand why so many people like these games.
I dont have good things to say about Skyrim because it was rushed to get to this awesome 11-11-11 release date they set up, its plain obvious the company thinks they can keep releasing games that are so bugged ridden and the excuse of it being a huge world is just that an excuse for them to release it in the condition its at. The problems that Skyrim has shouldnt have passed the Q/A process in the bug department of its problems.
Now that I am done ranting about Skyrim problems I think Mass Effect 3 doesnt have Skyrim to worry about, probably FF13-2 or Biowares MMO SWTOR. Those are the only titles I can think of that will give Mass Effect 3 problems, overall Mass Effect 3 should do excellent since it was pushed back to 3-6-12 assuming end of the year was truly its first release date and not just guesses from stores that had preorder set up.
Just a ashame we wont be able to play any future ME titles after ME3 since the world is going to end near the end of December jk lol.

Don't know about that, I don't get involved with sequels to games I never played to begin with. It will not effect me in the least unless some ****** of a studio decides they have to copy & paste Skyrim and edit for their purposes. In what light will Mass Effect 3 be viewed in the post-Skyrim era?
Besides Skyrim is a stupid name.

Quality over quantity, some may not know the difference.

Well Mass Effect 3 has real games to worry about not bug riddled games like Skyrim that Bethesda tends to release often. I mean FF13-2 is coming out soon, I believe the first month of 2012 if i remembered right lol. I actually dont know the release date to FF13-2 lol.

Skyrim was epic until it took bad programming to its program

Seriously. Sandbox games are the enemy. I absolutely have to reach 100% completion and Bethesda games get boring looooooong before that.
Also, I'll restate the obvious and say that ME3 will be seen in a completely different light from Skyrim because they're fundamentally different games.

Don't try to belittle the great. It is preference of game style, sure, but don't make yourselves look bad.
On point....as I have said there is much criticism and questioning outside of this forum about the direction of ME3 and while some fans may be content, there is a host of us who aren't.
Is there any gameplay in ME3 that isn't just....shooting and talking? Is there anything at all to explore? Anything?

I dont like this comparison to Skyrim, but in that game's defense, any game THAT big, is gonna have bugs, its unavoidable. It's not a matter of the QA's not getting it in time before the game's release, it's just so big, you'd never get them all, but that's the price you pay for such a vast game.
It can be vast as you want, but having bugs like script "keyXYZ" not being properly assigned to the item "keyXYZ" is plain dumbness.
And, have you ever seen a list of bugfixs from unofficial patches? They are usually 10 meters long or more.

Post-Skyrim era?
Fancy!
I very much doubt that comparing a story-driven and mostly linear shooter with significant emphasis on character development and team-based tactical combat against a massive sandbox will net you any solid results.
You're free to make the comparison, certainly, but don't expect it to get you anywhere.
I made no such attempts at a comparison. Did you even read anything I wrote?
Of course not! Dummy. With an average age of 13 as you have correctly surmised, and being largely products of the abysmally bad US public school system, none of us are capable of reading, much less forming a coherent opinion.

I don't need to get Skyrim's metacritic score or sales numbers, do I? Or the fact it obliterated DAII for game of the year and has been called by many one of the greatest rpgs of all time.

People don't feed this Troll. Mods should lock this thread. Why is this troll so desperate to try and put Mass Effect down. We like Mass Effect. Go to a Skyrim board with this.

You'll actually find ME2 metacritic scores were superior to Skyrims, although the latter was still admittedly very high. You raised the topic, anyone should be allowed to discuss a differeing opinion from you.argonian persona wrote...

I have yet to seen an open world RPG with a great story and memorable characters. While I like Skyrim better than Oblivion (less stupid main story, better atmosphere) and I really enjoyed the game, I didn't find anything that I would call new or even revolutionary. The "new" quest system? Please...doing the same quests over and over again is like playing an MMO without the actual MMO part.
Play Fallout New Vegas. It may not have hit it but it is rather damn close. Much better story than most of Bethesda open world games. Then again New Vegas was made by Obsidian so its a given.
