One company shipping out a complete, functional rpg and the other shipping out a bug ridden mess that becomes a bigger mess the longer you play until it ultimately concludes with an ineveitable game breaking bug that forces people to delete their save and start over sure seems like someone's approach to rpg making is more valid than the other.starmine76 wrote...
Bioware and Bethesda take very different approaches to their RPG's. Each apporach has its strengths and weaknesses. Neither is less valid than the other.
In what light will Mass Effect 3 be viewed in the post-Skyrim era?

In what light? Well sunlight most likely, but seriously "post Skyrim era"? LMFAO! Get real dude just because Skyrim has a huge map and 300+ hours of repetitive side missions does not make it the end all be all of video games like you people make it out to be. It has a paper thin story that frankly sucks, no memorable characters what so ever (other than some stupid npc w/ a crippled knee), the most repetitive gameplay I have ever seen in a game and on top of all of this the game shipped with game crippling bugs. Frankly you sound like a pretentious moron in your op, you're assuming the game will be a linear third person shooter based on what, the gameplay they've shown from E3 and the VGA's? Yeah because skyrim only showed all the deep rpg features at those shows they never showed gameplay or any action. You act like you've seen alot of stuff from this game but if you had you would know that exploration has only been expanded on since ME2, you have a galaxy full of planets and you can land on multiple locations on a single planet. The RPG features have also been expanded on which is something else you apparently haven't seen, the skill trees have multiple branches now and weapon customization is back. Frankly the ME franchise has done more to innovate the rpg than skyrim has, it actually has a story, character development and the gameplay is more than just slapping RT and occasionally LT and yes you are comparing them you're implying skyrim was a game changer (which it sure as hell wasn't) and asking how ME3 will be viewed now because you're overrated piece of **** game cameo out first.

You're not the only one, for a large segment of the fanbase, Mass Effect 3 seems to be terrifying rather than exciting them. There are rumors of having less control over what Shepard says, hints that the refreshingly realistically portrayed woman Ashley is being turneds into a sexualized Miranda clone in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator, it looks like the (relatively) hard sci-fi of ME1 has been abandoned in favor of "science" fantasy Star Wars style drivel, ****ing Origin, multiplayer not only sucking up recourses that should have gone to single player but actually influencing single player (so in a way it's not like a feature you can just ignore, the mp existing actively punishes players who generally don't like mp), and I've avoided leak spoilers like the plague but apparently they add in a whole new level of fear. It's not just one or two things, it seems like with nearly every bit of info we hear the devs are taking ME down a road the fans DON'T want to see it go down.
I hope the game proves a lot of people wrong, I guess we'll know in a couple of months.
OMG
...They said hey had seperate teams working on SP and MP. So, there's no resources being sucked up for one or the other, and you don't need to play MP if you don't want to.

It does make me wonder though...is it put on the same disc as one of the single-player discs which in turn makes less space for single-player content. Also, is the MP counted into the budget that ME3 was given to develop with?log1x_dr4g0n wrote...

I agree, but I didn't have any horrible bugs that made it unplayable. 200+ hours of gameplay for me already, and I'm prettty much bored with it now. I enjoyed it though...but I know I'll enjoy ME3 more.

True, but putting in another disc probably adds in extra costs for shipping it out(though how much might not be large, so it could end up being irrelevant.). Since ME3's definitely going to need multiple discs anyway, I guess they could just have extra room as well on the last disc.LGTX wrote...
@HiroVoid There's this handy feature they invented called disc-swapping. Mght just solve the problem.

Bethesda = massive open worlds with lots of freedom in ordering in what you do with the main plot and side plots.also allows for great player character choice in the "day to day" choices (ie you can just walk up and punch any guard if you want to). this open world/freedom of player choice within the world itself prevents the type of character driven story seen in Bioware games.
neither are a bad design and both have their own appealing factors to them. me personally I preffer the story driven style for the sole fact that I know I will want to finish it. the open world and freedom aspects makes me wander around going "ooo shinny" and I never finish the game more than once if that.

Or when I found a secret "Evil" cult in one of the dungeons, when I talked to their leader I had no option to insult their actions, either I join them or ignore them, and even when I killed them all, their "God" talked to me and saw me as his new champion, when I chose to deny this act he just says "What? nah, you're my champion and you'll like it!".
Bethesda said we can be who we want to be, only that was a lie, I can only be what the game wants me to be.
