The co-op feature is not part of the main campaign and you do not play as Shepard.

i prefer me1 over me2(me2 shifting towards the shooter crowde) and i cant wait to try the co-op you get to be any race you want cant wait to be turian:D  its good to know that the artical was wrong about co-op affecting sp someone from BW should set them all stright once and for all.

They say it may be easier in co-op. Doesn't say it is impossible in single player. I have no problem to play in veteran difficulty or hardcore, or insanity.

It's great too know that the BioWare team is still doing calibrations.

can it wait  she's  trying the too finish these calibrations  =].

Jessica Merizan wrote...

I played about 10 hours of the
game, and my combat experience was really enjoyable. A lot of energy has
been put into customization in leveling and weaponry, and the team has
done a lot of testing it to determine (or calibrate, I suppose) the
difficulty settings.

These changes were not forced or weakened by
the co-op feature, so I think it's a bit of a stretch to make that
connection. However, I found the aforementioned more enjoyable due to
the improvements in combat overall.

EDIT: Obviously, the word
"BioWare" under my name might cloud your judgment of what I'm saying,
but I try to be as candid and forthcoming as possible here because I
know how frustrating it is to be on the other side. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png[/smilie]

Its is frustrating  especially with a new feature that  your interested in and believe the would really   enchance the experience of playing to have some  vague information.

My main concern was the effect of  War Resources and Galactic readiness not really the existence of the Co-op feature. Its one the things that like about MMO  gettting a group of people together and working towards a game goal.. I really team based game play and Squad Based...  the former football player in I guess.

I'm glad they're increasing the difficulty. Too many games lack challenge. ME2 definitely lacked challenge and even playing on insanity the game was challenging mechanically, everything just took a lot longer to kill. I had a tougher time playing ME1 but that was only because it was so clunky.

I know there are some people who play the ME series who aren't regular video game players and come purely for the story but in that case just play on casual which shouldn't be a problem or just watch all the cutscenes on youtube.

well this true  one the of mistakes that  alot dev's  make is that  they  breaking the game = making more challenging. ( Ninja Gaiden...I  talking about YOU.)   Thats not case - challenging AI  a learing curve that  leaves the player feeling like they have over come and happy  thats what makes a challenging game.   Not  OH THANK GOD  thats over feeling that alot of some so called challenging games  have...

Ironically I fond ME to be much more harder on normal than ME2 on insanity, but that's mostly because of the clunky combat.

Hardcore for me is normal so not a big issue there. Only when you play on the higher difficulty settings is when you REALLY start to appreciate upgrades and leveling up in ME2. :P

Anyways, if I've said it once, I'll say it again: Wait for the final, ACTUAL product before trying to form kind of judgement. Right now we only have half-truths and falsehoods to work from. Show a little logic and reason and WAIT and SEE.

That just means I'll have to think harder when playing. Veteran isn't very hard. Just normal with more moving enemies.

There are people who don't play this game on insanity anyway?

Its a war with the ultimate villains. Its supposed to be hard.

More to the point, BW has repeated -- ad nauseum -- that the "best" ending can be done in single-player only. You'll just have to do the missions. I don't see the problem, since I always do all the missions anyway.

I actually don't. My preferred difficulty has always been Casual. Not because I suck; simply because I prefer it (think of it as wanting to be told a story rather than challenged). That said, I did do ME1 and ME2 on Insanity for the achievements.

So it seems you're going to like ME3's story mode.

Fair enough, but then difficulty is a non-issue for you, isn't it FP?

I play on either casual or normal. On normal, I already had a lot of difficulty getting through ME1 and 2. I don't normally play shooters; ME is the only cover-based shooter (or third-person shooter) I have ever played. If ME3 will be more difficult, I will have to stick to casual or I'll likely be unable to finish the game.

Don't assume that everyone has your skill level, or is playing this game for the combat. Image IPB

It isn't. For instance, I managed to beat Rainbow Six: Vegas on Realistic (literally one shot and you're dead) and Dead Space 2 on Hardcore (only 3 possible saves throughout the entire playthrough!) :D

It's just that I prefer to play Mass Effect on Casual since I don't see it as a game where I'd want a challenge versus a story.

Difficulty is not an issue for me. After playing ME2 on Insanity I couldn't go back to Normal. So if Veteran is the new Normal I think I'll still be able to breeze through.

Still against the idea of any kind of multiplayer. I simply don't give a damn about it and sure as hell don't want it affecting the single player campaign in any way.

Arrival on Insanity was a challenge, though.

..This.

I have played both ME1 an ME2 on insanity and it wasn't that hard IMO- but damn- Arrival? I think I remember decreasing my difficulty for that DLC.

I'm not scared of increasing difficulty levels however for ME3. As long as they still have an "Easy" option for newbs who cares?

Pffff, 'Veteran' is super easy in both ME1 and ME2. And in ME2 even 'Insanity' was not so hard either. Once you get used to 'Insanity', it becomes almost too easy.

Seems ME3 is finally going to be challenging. Good.

This. :bandit:

That said, I sometimes do a playthrough on Casual to feel godly. Once I've beaten the game on Insanity and hit level 60, I'm switchin' on story mode or Casual for some digital blasphemy.

lol @ all the people saying ME1 and 2 were too easy. The elitists have come out to play in this thread I see.

I don't mind Veteran being the new Normal by any means, but there is no need to belittle those who find Normal to be a challenge in the first two games.

Tbh it is not about belittling (sp?). Veteran isn't hard. You just have to try. Most people just don't think much about what they do or what skills they pick up. If you put a bit thought in class choice, abilities and companions you take with you, Veteran can be easier for you than just playing Normal without thinking about anything. It's not about being elitist. It is about using the things you have available.

through really at this point how hard ME 3 is to me may be pointless because in the next couple of hours I will be embarking on the task of Defeating.... Dark Souls.

To fill help fill the time gap.

Per Jessica's comments, I just hope that BW doesn't feel that customization of weapons & leveling is a sufficient amount of "RPG-ing". For me, BW excels on story and the choices the gamer makes in the pursuit of that story. To me, that will be the winning formula, not gun colors. Sorry, semi-off topic.

ME1 & ME2 on insanity were cakewalks, so I don't see what the big deal is here. If you want to play true insanity difficulty games, try some of the old classic Nintendo games (battletoads racing level comes to mind).
