I haven't tried it yet, but I did see a couple of nights ago that Best Buy had the price reduced to $34.99, which is cheaper than pretty much any "new" game.

I was puzzled why it was even cheaper than Two Worlds 2...? It must be really, really awful. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png

No it isn't. I thought it was a great game. It did a few things better than SR2 and a few things worse. SRtT is very reminiscent of DA2 in that it split the fan base due to what some consider poorly thought out design decisions and story events.

Though I enjoyed DA2, I'd have to say that. Partly because DA2 and Skyrim are the only new games I bought this year, and partly because of how rushed Act 3 felt. The DLC is excellent, but that final Act is still poor.

Not even close. Saints Row 3 is the first and the only Saints Row game I've tried and it is arguably the most entertaining game I've played this year.

Short and sweet. It is packed full of action and craziness. I highly recommend it. :D

I had a chance to play the DA2 demo at Comic Con almost a year before launch, and I had a pretty good idea of what the game was going to be like.

Other than a few gripes like the reverse fedex sidequests, no ability to fully commit to the apostates or templars, etc., I really enjoyed the game, ended up logging a few hundred hours with two characters and I still might go back to it .

On the other hand, I was looking forward to Witcher 2 for quite a long time, pre-ordered it more than six months in advance, and sadly it played like a slideshow on my computer.

Granted, I don't have the greatest gaming pc, but i'm able to play most games at 1080p and Witcher 2 runs horribly even at the lowest settings. As a result of the lag / low frame rate, the controls were very unresponsive and I think my enjoyment of the game suffered.

I also found the game world's slightly more open areas to be frustrating. They were almost open world, but then every time I run into a tiny puddle or stream, I run smack into an invisible wall, which is sometimes crossable 2 inches to the left, etc. It was like teasing me with the illusion of an "almost" open world. It might seem counterintuitive, but this didn't really bother me in games like DA2 that don't really have any large open areas.

Also the A.I. pathing for most enemies was rather odd - if you take two steps backward, they stop chasing you and allow you to heal. I hope there is a mod that addresses this issue.

I'm planning to dive back into Witcher 2 at some point, perhaps I will try running at a lower resolution. I was just disappointed with how poorly it runs and during the little bit of the game that I played (about 15 hours), I missed some of the soulfulness of great moments of Witcher 1, where, for example, you get completely hammered with Zoltan and Dandelion, then unceremoniously dumped on the doorstep of either Triss or Shandi, only to be thoroughly reamed and all the while your vision is still blurry from getting drunk.

That was probably the defining moment of Witcher 1 for me. I hope there are similar moments in Witcher 2.

Some people were disappointed by some of the things they took away and what happened with some characters. I I'm a bit disappointed myself, but overall the game is pretty good. I just don't think it's as good as SR2.

Patches addressed most of those issues, but definitely upgrade your video card(s).  Initially, I struggled to run TW 2 as well, so I bought a pair of the latest NVIDIA cards.  FYI, if you're tight on money, get a pair of 9500GTs (you can get them on ebay for about $120 for both of them), and set them to SLI with processor on CPU.  That should run the game pretty well.

As for me, TW 2 is probably my GOTY even over Skyrim.

- The Witcher 2: yeah, TW2 is the first game that comes to my mind if I think about the most disappointing game this year. The first one was amazing (and I played it when it was first released) and, I don't know... maybe I found TW2 too different from the first one? Maybe I was expecting too much? Maybe it simply wasn't that amazing?

- Skyrim: amazing world and a great game, better than Oblivion for sure. I actually had a great time with it, but once I finished all the important quests I didn't have any interest in playing it anymore.

- Dragon Age 2: it's actually one of my favourite games this year (if not my favourite game along with Deus Ex and Portal 2) and I'll definitely play it again. Still, it could have been so much more for all the reasons we know.

That would be wonderful if I could; however, sadly i'm on a laptop and it's not possible to upgrade this GPU.

SR3 got an overall good score on Metacritic. Some who had played SR2 were dissapointed. I poured alot of time into the game and I think it totally gets the sandbox formula right. I loved it, but then I was expecting a GTA4 rip off, and this game does everything better than GTA4

As for TW2, well, there are many fans of TW1 who don't like the direction TW2 took. I guess there's always a risk of that when making a sequel.

Might be a tl:dr, I suggest maybe renting the game first before reading in too much.

Gameplay wise, it is fun. Some of the new side quest are great. I admit that I'm still playing it, only about 7 hours in,but when you sit down and play it, a great deal of story missions (as far as i am in now in both chapters 1 and 2 ) have all merely been new sidequest. I thought after playing it once, That be it, however I had played a few more than once before I decided to take a break from the game in general.

It's a mixed bag really, they have new abilities, some decent car customization, with a bit more explanations, just as adding tire durability, bulletproof body etc, some of which were in SR2 but they added a bit more.

As for character customization... it feels as if they took out a great deal of options. I've driven around the main islands for clothing stores but meh. Bodily, some of the more extremes, such as excessivley skinny or fat have been taken out.

Story wise, as I've said before it seems like there may be new writers. Certain characters are different from previous games, some are the same ( as to be expected ), but it seems likethey are just "trying too hard". Main villain wise, its kind of meh to me (i'm passed the first chapter, think im coming to the end of the 2nd). For example, in SR2, you may have begun to hate Maero, or more than a few of the Ronin members.... maybe slightly "respect" them in some way, they all felt like actual characters. In SR3 they feel quite stiff, I don't really care much about whats going on in it.

But alas, I'm in the minority, as SR3 is selling much better than the previous.

Dragon Age 2.

I go out of my way to not buy games that I'm not sure about.

Dragon Age 2 I bought despite my reservations, hoping against hope.

Uhm...

I'd say Shogun 2, but I honestly haven't given it enough of a chance. I've played part of the tutorial. That's not enough to really see what a game has to offer.

Same with DS3. I wasn't expecting much with this game, but it hasn't grabbed me yet. It needs another chance.

Yup. Argeed. DA2 was a real heart breaker. This is the game that crushed my faith in Bioware.

Dragon Age 2, easily.

I usually only buy 2-4 new games at launch every year and despite reservations on the direction of DA2, I figured it would at least have a decent story. Eh, yeah...with DA2, BioWare goes on my "Don't buy at launch until tons of reviews and impressions are available" list of developers.

I'm really liking Shogun 2 so far- if you like the other Total War games and can get into the Feudal Japan setting, its really solid.

I would have to say LA Noire. I was really looking forward to it coming out...but then the GTA driving just killed it for me. It could've been fine without that. I actually lost interest in it so quickly that I never finished it. So, I really looked forward to it and it died in my eyes within a few days. Major disappointment.

DA2 however I was prepared for it being a flop, considering there was barely over a year inbetween the Dragon Age titles. Therefore, I braced myself for the inevitable, lowered my expectations to the level of garbage, and was pleasantly surprised with it being a little bit above garbage. I liked some of the characters though the repetitive environments and missions made me feel like I was being dragged through the mud. I was even prepared for characters I had made sure to kill off previously to come back to life for my game, since it seems that the good old folks at Bioware will never figure out that some people like certain folks DEAD and NEVER want to see their ugly faces come back again. That goes for DAO characters and ME characters. At least release a patch or something to the game through Live to fix these issues Bioware! Stop leaving us with half-finished games and DLC. Anyways, it was a disappointment after all, but one that considering the time issue and Bioware's lack of proper bug testing, I was fully prepared for, though I shouldn't have had to of been.

Brink was very disappointing. I was honestly looking forward to it based on the trailers.

And you know, DA2 wasn't that terrible in my opinion. It had both good and bad qualities for it but on its own it was alright. And for those who said Saints Row the Third.... I partially agree in that while I had a lot of fun playing it, when comapred to Saints Row 2 it was both an upgrade and a downgrade from it. For instance I liked what they did with the notoriety system in SRtT and how they make gangs or the police actively look for you. But I did not like how when it came to the police, they would shoot on sight even at the lowest notoriety. I liked how in the previous Saints Row games they would make an attempt to arrest you and if you had a human shield they would try to negotiate. I liked the customization in Saints Row 2 better than SRtT over all because of how extensive the customization was for SR2. Granted, SRtT had better clothing and character models, but SR2 offered a wider range of how you wanted your character customized right down to the insignificance of whether you wanted your hat tiped a particular way or what kind of socks you wanted to wear.

Call of Juarez the cartel was pretty awful, I buy shooters for the pretty colours not bad attempts at histrionic drama and they couldn't even get the "pretty colours" part right.

Saint's row the Third

Is it a bad game, No, but is it loyal to it's fan base, No, the story had nothing to do with the last 2, and it making the boss look like a pus.sy and not the cold blooded killer I played as before, but worst of all it killed off one of my favorite Characters of all time, Johnny Gat, and the problem with that isn't that they killed him, the problem is that he went out like a b*tch only having him in the game for less than 2 missions and I've said this before, you may gain more fans with these changes but loss old ones in the process.

TW 2 to some extent - too scripted with too many cut scenes, like the Uncharted series.

Dragon Age 2 it's like every Christmas where you didn't get that one thing you really wanted, for about 30 hours straight.

Fun fact though DA2 is actually programmed with broken dreams and the tears of puppies and kittens it's part of EA's new FRANCHISE SMASHER engine, a DRM and occasional digital distribution platform who's sole purpose is to ensure the utter ruination of once promising ideas. It was actually based on the brain of the guy who invented New Coca Cola.

I didn't buy very many games this year, but of the ones I did get, the most disappointing was Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Now I thought it was a great game, and I was having lots of fun playing it, but the ending disappointed me so much that I found myself not being able to start another playthrough.
Now I was disappointed at the mass repeat of dungeons and the endless waves of Dragon Age 2, but despite that it is still one of my favorite games.I actually love DA2 as much as I loved DA:O.

Much as I may hate to say it, I might have to go with Skyrim. Still a great game, but the more I play it, the more flaws I seem to be noticing.

A mention for L.A. Noire too, primarily because of the reptitive nature of the game. DA2 as well, for reasons often repeated.
