Why do you play Mass Effect?

I know why I love Mass Effect, but I am doing a project to see why people play certain genres of games as opposed to others. So what compels you to play?

For example, a game like Star Wars: TOR where it's an MMO, the interactions are virtually infinite, as players are the inhabitants as opposed to AI and previously recorded voice actors, creating a much mroe dynamic world.

But upon TORs release, Mass Effect's anticipation was completely unaffected. A player of Mass Effect will, I assume, usually choose Mass Effect over TOR, despite there being a limit to what one can do in Mass Effect (as I would).

So I ask: why go single-player, with a finite number of interactions as opposed to the other options?
Why are you excited for Mass Effect 3?

Judging from what I've seen from both TOR and ME3 I'd say TOR >>>> despite being an MMO.

I just love the universe of mass effect, the different species, the history, the tech. It's got so much potential for spin offs as well.

Because I enjoy the combination of story, gamplay and role playing it offers as a video game.

In the case of Star Wars: The Old Republic, I don't play it because I don't really like MMORPGs and I don't have a good gaming PC to play it anyway.

I play the series because it's fun in its own way, despite the shortcomings.
I won't substitute the series for something else, I'm not like that, I don't (like to) pick sides.

Story and characters, yes.

I can get attached to ME characters, yes. Other players, I wish my keyboard had a key for electrocuting people across the internet, yes.

Let me start by dicussusing why I started playing Mass Effect. I was intrigued with the game after I read a few blog articles about how wonderful it was, and a buddy of mine could not stop talking about it. Then it was on sale on Xbox live, and I bought it as a World of Warcraft break.

I loved the character creation screens (but all my Sheps ended up looking really bizarre) and I was hooked the minute Saren killed Nihilus.

What hooked me was the story and the characters therein. I love the world Bioware created, I love Shepard's Arc, and I love the idea of replaying the game to change the nature of the world. Mass effect never feels scripted to me. I know there is a script and voice actors, but the cinematics and the interrupts have an organic feel to them. The story is progressing the way you want it to.

Anothe reason why I love Mass Effect--It hits a fantastic blend of sci-fi tropes. I never got into the Modern Warfare/Medal of honor games, and after a while swinging a sword or casting a spell gets boring. But give me a spaceship and thermal clips? Sold. And just to engage a bit of the Star Wars nerd, Biotics (and their lore) made me a fan for life.

I'm excited to end Shepard's arc and to see the set up for the next Mass Effect project. I am looking forward to the Coop play. I'm looking forward to running the trilogy over again and again.

tl;dr:
I play mass effect because I love the lore, the story and the character arc.

I'd also like to add that I should of added in my post above is that ME is like an interactive movie where you can decide what you want to happen of course at a limit. Then of course all of the aliens like the turians, asari, reapers and last but not least mr shepard.
