Has anyone else managed to bodge his recruitment mission by picking up Wrex and taking down Fist before visiting the med lab?

But wait a minute. A guy said in another thread that he got Garrus just before the final battle and I have heard that you can't NOT have him, you can only prospone it.
Like with Liara. There where talks about that you did not have to get her but in the end, you did because you need her for the vision.

You have to recruit either Wrex or Garrus but you can skip either if you play it right. IIRC I had a play that didn't have one or the other so it can be done. The only required recruitments are Ashley, Tali and Liara, for every game.

I did a game where I didn't recruit Garrus. It doesn't really make much different in 2- there's a little bit of dialogue during the Archangel recruitment mission then the rest of the game he's your buddy despite the fact you never worked together before.

If you miss out on Garrus or Wrex they hang around so you can recruit them later (though obviously once you decide to leave the Citadel during the lockdown you can't get them later.
My xenophobic Shepard avoided Garrus and killed Wrex but my other 5 recruited both

I went back and picked up Garrus so I could do his backstory mission, but otherwise he's just been calibrating the tank while I do Ashley and Liara as my achievement companions.

Since I'm going to go renegade next time, I think I'll take Garrus along -- he's such a baby!renegade it's adorable.
