My ME1 is crashing and whenever it does a message pops up that says
General protection fault!
History: GMatrix2D::Swap() Address = 0x10b23fe0 (filename not found)
What does this mean and can it be fixed and how?

Not much anyone can do to help you until you give us information we can use. Read the "How to Report" thread, and update your post with some details.

At the very least, please make sure you are patched to 1.02 and have the latest graphics drivers.

Latest graphics drivers are fine if you are running an ATI card, but if its Nvidia, then running the latest drivers causes more problems than they solve.
Nvidia has a pathetic record when it comes to supporting games more than a year old, and something like ME1 which is 4 years old is left high and dry by Nvidia. 258.96 are the last known stable drivers that work with ME1 and ME2. Anything after that is pot luck.

Actually, I just noticed that this error is usually the 2nd or 3rd step of the stack trace after a typical bad index exception, which is usually a corrupted game. So if you have the steam version, make sure you verify the cache, otherwise: uninstall, do a hard drive scan (google or ask if you don't know how), then reinstall, patch, and try again.

Its a disc version and the game still works is the odd thing it wasnt till I got to feros that it started showing this message, I later tried a new game and it worked fine so im thinking it could be the save not the game or something im not fully aware of.

The most common cause a a GPU and driver problem but there is at least one mission in the entire game that also triggers this. I believe it's the guy on the Citadel (near Flux) who wants a drug fix and the GPF can pop up randomly until that mission is over.

This thread is not about any particular Windows version. There is no OFFICIAL support from EA for W7, no. Will it work? With minor caveats, yes, it will. Do a better search. Don't use the forum's inadequate finder function.
