I'm sure the book is good and I will eventually read it (probably). But I've kind of been hesitant of buying it because it's a prequel to ME1 and I don't really care much for Saren, sooo yeah. Not that I don't like ME1, but I just don't feel the need to read about what happens before it.

I've paid for half of my ME3 CE, and half of my SFxT. I have the money to pay off both now after Christmas, but why bother? I've got over two months to hold onto that money, just in case.
That midnight release, though, will probably be the best midnight release of my life. The finale of Mass Effect AND the only Capcom crossover fighter I've ever wanted? Hell yeah, mother****ers!

I always do. The sensation of walking in having already paid in full & then walking out... Man, there's no greater feeling, especially if you had paid it off months in advance. It always feels you got the game for free.

The official preorder count is ten; if they fail to get ten preorders, then they aren't allowed to stay open past normal hours for a release. At least, that's what my old boss told me when he became a manager at Gamestop.
That said, just because they get over ten preorders doesn't obligate them to do so. They only do it to promote sales; if people are constantly returning because they can get it at midnight, then Gamestop will keep doing it. If they're not seeing many returns or large turnouts, they'll likely stop.
That said, remember that Street Fighter X Tekken, a very highly anticipated fighting game crossover, is coming out on the same night. You're always more likely to have a midnight release for two big games than one. Kinda like how Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat released on the same day, or Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.
