I know this is an old error commonly seen back in the day, but I'm a little irritated that I'm getting it with a brand new video card.
Custom PC running:
Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon Dual-Core 5200+ (2.61GHZ)
2GB RAM (another 2 are on the way)
Radeon HD6750 1GB
Now, to begin with; yes, everything is updated fully. I just put this PC together, and the very first thing I did was download the latest windows updates until there was absolutely nothing left to download, installed DirectX 9.0c (the version the interwebs seem to fairly unanimously recommend as being the most compatible with NWN2), fully updated NWN2 Gold via the auto-patcher and tested, re-tested and tested again all the DirectX functions within the "dxdiag" utility.
My computer is as clean and updated as it can be for this game, and yet when I try to start, the launcher still claims that it can't find a Direct3D device. Now I'm certain it can't be that this card doesn't support shaders or something stupid like that.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am loathe to have to resort to playing this game on my older laptop on which it runs, but not very fast. I would really love to have it working on the machine which I just spent a good deal of money and time to get it up to snuff for gaming.

Update: Well I solved the problem for my personal setup. The problem was that I am using an HDTV as a monitor instead of an actual computer monitor, and Windows defaulted to the generic "Plug N Play Monitor" driver, which was not reporting this TV's proper capabilities to the game, and so the game refused to recognize it as a D3D-compatible device. I solved the problem by changing the monitor driver to the Windows-supplied "Digital Flat Panel 1280x1024" driver, and now the game fires right up. Maybe that info will help anyone else with this error on a similar setup. As for me, I'm good

Interesting... thanks for sharing - this might help someone in the future.
As the game gets older, more and more people are faced with challenges getting it to work with technology that wasn't in use when it came out. This resolution is one of those situations.
