OK so I know you can launch NWN2 with a different directory in place of the stuff normally put under "My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2", and I know Pain's new thingummy will be able to launch the game from your choice of directory etc etc, but I was just wondering if there's a way of setting a default path? I've checked the ini files and things and I can't see anything. Further, can you use the --home flag on the Steam version?

I am not sure about the Steam version (though I believe the data is there, so it should be able to be launched the same way -- but it is a Steam version and does have secondary programming, so...)
You should be able to find out with the notes for version 1.23 patch. Grinning Fool did a pretty thorough job of explaining how all the little switches, flags and choices operate in the autodownloader and launcher of the patch. I don't recall exactly where the information is located on the forums (if it was reposted, it would most likely be in the Multiplayer, Module or Toolset forums, it might also be located on the Self Help Tech Support forums) though I am pretty sure GFs information is also in the patch notes themselves. He was quite thorough.
Sorry, The Fred, that was the best I could manage for you.

Hi, The Fred!
Yes.
forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php
"Q. I don't have that much disk space on C:\\, can I put new or downloaded modules on another disk?
Right-click on Neverwinter Nights 2, select properties, and select "Set Launch Options". In the box type Code: -home "The location You Want to Save to" and click okay. Make sure that you don't have any spaces in your location.
Keep in mind that if you do this AFTER having run Neverwinter Nights 2, you will probably want to copy your content from "My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2" (WinXP) or "C:\\Users\\**USERNAME**\\Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2" (Win/Vista[?]) to the new folder."
The only things I'd move from the original directory to the new directory are the two NWN2 ini files. That's only because they have your favorite settings.

Ah, great! Thanks. My stuff is already split between a backup folder I made before I got the Steam version and the new, current one, so I need to do some moving anyway, but my Documents folder is starting to get a bit cluttered.

Annoyingly it doesn't seem to want me to put spaces in the path, even inside quotation marks. It does work, though, so thanks.

My program basically constructs a dos command, and the syntax is a bit wonky when a path has spaces. If you use it and check the debug option in the preferences, it puts the full command it uses into the log. Of course it does not include skywings extension or allowing you to set a core on all systems, but that would work in either a batch file or a shortcut, or just to see how the spaces/quotes should look.

I might do that (I still mean to look at the camera stuff too), but right now I have a new problem - the Toolset still opens from the same old directory. I tried giving it the home flag too, but it doesn't seem to have done anything.
EDIT: I can change the default module path in the Toolset options, but it refuses to let me have haks or tlks in the same directory, it wants them to be in the Steam or the default My Documents folder.

You can set them in nwn2.ini i think, the [alias] section. This does overide the -home option though. Toolset always seems to be in the my documents folder though, i basically use that folder for building solely, and use other folders for playing. Renaming that folder is likely only way to manage it.
Bet if i changed that ini file on game launch for 30 seconds and then swapped it back i could fake things out though. Kind of avoiding touching the program files folder unless i have to though.
