love reading, being a writer, love for characters has nothing to do with the fact of liking or not liking a character in DA2.

Personally I love them. Fenris is the only member f the group who sees mages as the devils they are, and as an abomination, Anders is a treasured agent of the Maker.

Anders is insane, preachy and stupid (the character).
Fenris has no hook and is boring.

Anders' description also applies to Fenris, just for the opposite ideaology.

Also, at least part of it probably has to do with what enormous dicks they are to Merrill.

Anders is crazy and whiny "mages that" "mages are oppressed" i know they are,no need to remind me and most of them aren't paragons of good either.
Fenris is a elf and i hate elves(call me a fantastical Racist) he whines and whines too but at least he sometimes admits he is wrong.

I just wanted to romance Aveline *sobs*

Cause they're whiny, overly brooding, pretentious emo windbags who don't listen to reason.

And they have eyebrows that do this:

To be honest, I never really understood people's obsession with Merrill. I thought Morrigan was far more interesting. She's quite b*tchy, I admit, but far more intruiging than Merrill. Just my opinion, though.

Oh, she definitely is. I loved Morrigan.

That said, Merrill is so damned nice to everybody that she really doesn't deserve the crap she gets from Anders and Fenris, the former especially.

Because they're the guys that when you invite them to a card game go
'Freaking Templars'
'Freaking Mages'
'Can you guys talk about anything else!? We're just trying to have a nice game here!'

Liking Merrill and Morrigan isn't mutually exclusive. They're not even in the same game, so you don't even have to choose between one or the other for romance.

Indeed. I love Morrigan just as much as I love Merrill. Merrill is pretty much the Morrigan of DAII.

Different personalites, but storyline wise they're largely the same. Both play a part in the story of Flemeth, both deal with the Eluvians, both are fascinated with magic, both try to play demons before they get played, etc.

They are, in fact, both in DA:O. Merill is a temp companion during the Dalish Elf origin.

There is no comparison between Morrigan and Merrill. Its like saying just because Tim Tebow is in the NFL, he's the same level of quarterback as Drew Brees, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, as opposed to a one dimensional, one trick pony.

Anyway:

Hardly.

Morrigan doesn't get played like a fiddle by a demon, she realizes she's in  the Fade with a demon and knows its a trick. Come on man, Merrill is barely involved with Flemeth at all beyond being a stage prop in her resurrection. Big difference between that and being an actual Witch of the Wilds like Morrigan. Yes, they both deal with Eluvians but Morrigan actually gets one working while Merrill goofs that up catastrophically. Merrill has no where near the storyline importance of somebody like Morrigan with the Dark Ritual, otherwise she would have been imbued with magical plot armor like Morrigan.

Well, I suppose that's true; all right, they're not companions or major characters in the same game. That's what I meant.

Besides, DA:O Merrill bears little resemblance in personality to DA2 Merrill anyway.

I find it slightly funny that Zjarcal's pic in response to Brockololly's post with the word pony in it is of a pony.

Made me chuckle, it did.

Anyway, back on topic. Fenris just won't change his views, at least in game. I happen to always pursue the friendship path with him because that's the one that makes me think his views will eventually change. The way I see what happens down both paths, Rivalry has him embittered towards his past and never moving on while Friendship has him doing exactly the opposite.

And thus, he's more likely to be a better person.

I can understand his distrust of magic and his hatred of demons and mages that work with demons, but to paint all mages the same way for the rest of his life shouldn't happen.

That LP was amazing. Made me hate DA2 a helluva lot more, almost made me start to dislike Bioware when they'd bring up the quality of writing in their games full stop (especially how you can be a ****** to your entire party in DA2 and yet they'll still get wet/a boner over you).

But yeah, The Merrill/Morrigan comparison .... man, I just don't see it.

Fenris is pretty bad ass. People don't like him cause hes an.. jackass most of the times.
Not his fault he doesn't like mages cause they slaved him.

Anders? I just don't like him personally. Have to ask a Anders hata.
