I bought and installed the Mass Effect 2 Deluxe Edition for Steam about five days ago. Besides missing the bonus content (which not located in Steam folder) the game after 15 hours of play is crashing immediately on start up. When I go to start the game I will get a black screen that will flicker a few times and then a message pops up, "Mass Effect 2 has stopped working." I have tried verifying the game through Steam however this did not work. Restarting Steam or my computer also did not work. Reinstalling the game also did not work.
The last time I played the game I just got done speaking to Zaeed Massani on Omega after meeting him for the first time. My video driver crashed afterwards due to my GPU overheating (forgot to set my fan speed) and then the game stopped working. After rebooting I tried starting the game which only crashed. It has been two days now and I have not been able to play the game not even for a second.

nVIDIA driver versions newer than 258.xx are catch as catch-can, mostly don't work for UT3 engine games such as ME-2.
You didn't name your drivers so far, and I forgot to comment that the system memory amount you named is really strange, since it's being sold in digital parts of GBs, like 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, etc.
" Physical Memory: 5.93 GB "
I also suppose that you understood you must have both Dx9 and Dx11 installed. They are perfectly compatible with one another: " DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 (Mar2009) or later " ~~ that version was used in Vista. Windows 7 has Dx11.

Sorry, Gorath. I typed it out in a hurry.
I have the GTX 460 SE not GTX 460. I only installed the driver that the NVIDIA recommended to me. I should install a 258 driver?

Well I managed to fix my problem and I now have the game running. Unfortunately I had to delete my saved game and start all over again. Not really a big deal.
It seems though that one of the free DLCs downloaded from Cerberus caused the problem, my guess is Zaeed.

I just wanted to post here so that people know I found the solution to the problem.
If your PC is running a Intel HD 3000 graphics driver, when you try to open the menu it will result in a crash and will bring you back to windows. there is however a solution that dose not require you to go out and by a new PC the solution is to use the older .2361 drivers.
you can download this from
http://www.wikidrive...MA_15.22.1.2361
once you install that the game will function beautifully. you can hit escape all day long and you won't crash to desktop
Thanks again everyone. See you around.

so yes you can go out and buy a brandy new graphics card or you can install the free driver both work. and both can run the graphics as high as your machine can handle. sure its not ideal but its free.

This thread is about an nVIDIA equipped non-Optimus system. It has absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to do with any of Intel's Tinker Toy play video boondoggles. You are off topic and out of line.
The fact that some people are too badly brain-washed by the Intel Corporation to be able to shop intelligently for a better system that costs less and meets the minimum requirements is because the Federal Government didn't apply a large enough fine on Intel for its illegal behaviors, not because the minimum requirements are incorrect.
