Hello. I'm trying to use the debug mode to mess around with things I haven't tried before, like using the dm_givelevel code to go over level 30 in MotB, or using the dm_modifyattackbase to play around with a high BAB caster, but it doesn't seem to work as described. Are these commands specific to a certain version? I never tried these on my ancient hard copy back in the day, but my buddy bought the steam version for me last year and I don't know if there would be a difference in useable commands or not.
When I enter the command it simply returns the Invalid command error in console. Other sites have made mention of having to use a target activation mode, or using [tab] to select the command to begin with. I see nothing about target activation, and pressing [tab] produces no effect within console or without.
I've spent a while searching for similar situations, but nothing is coming up, and all the sites that list the console codes make no mention of associated errors.
Is this a common problem?
I keep getting "Invalid command" when trying to use console commands.

Do any commands work for you? You are specifying DebugMode 1 before other commands, right?

Other codes have worked without issue, and I have no trouble accessing debugmode 1 to use them. I've been able to use codes like "SetSTR 24" without issue as long as I have right-click selected the appropriate character beforehand.
Commands that have proven functional:
Set"attribute" x
rs ga_dm
givexp x
dm_givegold x
giveitem x
pretty much everything here...
http://www.gamefaqs....nights-2/cheats
http://www.cheatbook...nternights2.htm
If I type "help givexp" it will pop up a brief usage description, but typing "help" followed by the commands with the dm prefix or others from the list return an "invalid command" error.
Commands that I have tested as invalid:
dm_enablecombatdebugging
dm_gettime
dm_heal
the dm_modify"attribute,age,save,attack, etc."
I have noticed that the ones that work for me don't specify anything about "active action target mode", so I'm wondering if this is a problem with the version I'm using [Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum. through steam], and if this is a matter of simply installing a patchfix for the missing or disabled files/commands.
Here are some of the sources the codes are claimed to work.
None of the ones here are working:

...and this one has them all mixed in:

Are you aware of the command "logcommands" ?
It outputs all (???) console commands to a textfile in the Install->NwN2 directory ...
