Ive just completed Mass Effect on hardcore now I want to do Insanity to get the achievment is it true that you can change the setting of the game just before Eden Prime while on the Normandy and it will not affect the do not change the settings rule?

When you make your character, it must be on Insanity.
You cannot go to Eden Prime, change the difficulty to Insanity and still get the achievement.
I tried, and I never got it. There really serious about that achievement.

Wait, so you can't use you'r level 60 Sherpard to get it unless he was on Insanity before the game start?

It is set up to be as long as you are on Insanity BEFORE leaving Eden Prime, and you don't mess with it after, then you are Supposed to get the achievement.

Again, it is supposed to be if it is set BEFORE you LEAVE Eden Prime, not at the start of the game.
I don't know what you hit, but many people have played it with the BEFORE LEAVING Eden Prime and gotten the achievement. Mind you, you can't change, or possibly LOOK at the difficulty setting after that but you can import a non-insanity character change to insanity and get the achievement, I know I did it.

mcsupersport is right. You can change difficulty any time before you activate the beacon on Eden Prime.
