My hunch is that some EA wannabee SEO has convinced them that allowing these types of "dofollow" links is bad for search rankings. This hasn't been true for a couple years, in fact linking out to relevant pages on high authority sites like YouTube is actually good for you rankings in Google, but many so-called "search professionals" are a few years behind the curve. My company just paid $30,000 for a full review of our SEO and even that was a couple years out of date.

Just wondering if there will ever be any kind of response from Bioware about this either way. It would really help out a lot for those of us who do use the site to work on projects, etc.

My suspicion is that if there was the slightest chance it could happen, you'd have seen a comment from one of the two who occasionally do scan through the message titles here. Since there's not been one, you can almost certainly just forget the hope.
Of course, I am also suspicious that the Social site here has been more or less on autopilot for quite some time, having either failed to meet expectations, or simply lost its priority in favor of other things that affect the bottom line directly.
