This is an interface tweak for this forum.

KinoInterfaceTweak V0.1 :

1) It removes unnecessary clutter : Rss button, left Portrait, left Menu, left DA:O ad, moderators list, etc.
2) It increases available page width for content. (by ~20%)
3) It increases text size and changed formatting for forum titles, topic titles, and posts to increase readability.
4) It increases the number of forum titles that can be displayed vertically (by 100%+, doubles it)
5) It increases the number of topic titles that can be displayed vertically (by 50%+)
6) It adds alternating background colors for topic titles
7) It reduces the size of player portraits on the right side of topic titles

This tweak will be updated on a regular basis. If you install it using Firefox "Stylish" plugin, you will automatically be updated to the latest version automaticly.

Installation :

1) You need Firefox (it might work with other, but it is untested)
2) Install stylish from : https://addons.mozil...efox/addon/2108
3) Install my interface mod from : http://userstyles.org/styles/22783 (click on one of the installation options on the right side of the page, the first one is the best)
4) Enjoy!

There are things I will improve shortly, and this is the first version so there might be a bug or two. However since I use this Tweak myself on a daily basis, it should evolve fairly fast. Feedback & suggestions are welcome.

(Also if someone has screenshots of the old forum, send them my way and I might make a second Tweak in that direction if I have the time.)

EDIT: Updates :

Version 0.2 :
- Increased the size of the quick reply textbox. You can now fit around 20 lines of text instead of the original 5.
- Fixed the white text on white background bug happening between the tweak and one of the social site themes

Text seems whiter, but that might just be the way that I have things set up in general...

Never knew that background was supposed to be there, though. Wonder why I don't have it.

Inarai,

On the left menu, go to : Profile -> Edit profile information

Scroll down and you will see an option to edit your forum "theme". This changes the design slightly including the background.

Great post, it's nice to see a contribution on this forum. Now my only commplaint is that I can't see what I'm typing into the quick reply box because it's white-on--white. We'll see how this turns out :o

Ah, yes, that's better.  Thank you.

Also, do you think you could replace the regular reply text box with a plain <TEXTAREA>? This fancy-schmancy one breaks the browser's functionality, like saving the contents if you accidentally hit the back button.

FunkyMo, here is a Hotfix for the white text in the quick reply area :

http://userstyles.org/styles/22783

Just click the button on the right to "update" the interface.

As for the textarea problem, I'd have to use javascript to replace the textbox using DOM, so it might be slightly time consuming. In all cases I'll look into it later and see.

That worked great, thanks!

It looks like you would have to make a GreaseMonkey script to replace the standard reply box because it's implemented in javascript.

Yes exactly. The tweak is purely CSS based right now, but if I start using javascript I could do some neat things and add functionality... but I am not sure the Stylish addon for Firefox can handle it and I don't want to make people use two separate plugins for a simple interface tweak. It will become a hassle to update.

So for now I will concentrate on making the forum easier on the eyes. :)

I noticed on the userstyles.org link that it allows you to download the style as a GreaseMonkey script.  So if you feel like adding another "build" step, you could run the style through the style -> script conversion and add functionality to that.

BTW, I'm hacking around in GreaseMonkey a bit and will post my results here (soon, hopefully...)

The problem with downloading it as a GreaseMonkey script is that users can't auto update that way as far as I know. But do post your results here! :)

Here's a quick attempt. Consider its license public domain because it's so little code :o

Some observations:
1) It seems like there is a javascript override on the font size and font family.
2) The forums source makes me weep. See point #1.
Addendum:
3) I can't imagine what kind of PHP nastiness is going on in the backend...

Hrm... I forgot to account for quoting; will (try to) fix.

EDIT: I broke the whole thing... more unnecessary javascript-fu to deal with

EDIT2: OK, this is definitely non-trivial.  Unfortunate.

This is very awesome - I really hated the layout, especially the fact that each thread took up so much space on the index page.

Thanks!

FunkyMo, have a look at this : http://diveintogreas...ide-method.html

As for the forum Tweak, I am moving it to Greasemonkey soon. I was able to add a few things like removing extra lines between paragraphs. (Look at the first post of Inarai for an example of how sometimes this forum adds way too much space between lines.)
