More like a wonder, really. I understand that this is the first book that sets itself after a game / not a prequel (or maybe it isn't?) and that it has it's own established cannon of certain events from both games, but are the events in this book its own specific cannon, or will it affect future games of the series?

Seeing as Shale & Wynne are in the book, would events that they were involved in ever be mentioned?

I don't know about specific people, especially since Wynne may or not be dead in some people's save games. It depends on how important Bioware deems the continuity. Some people go crazy when they do that (such as Morrigan always having the OGB), but it doesn't bother me since it's probably for the greater good of the story and I don't think they do it lightly.

As for the events in general, I'm only certain they will plya a part in future installments. The changes in the Chantry and Circles (or lack thereof) are monumental to Thedas along with the emergence of the Seekers of Truth. I have a feeling these changes will play a big role in DA3 as well.

Personally I'm not sure if Wynne really could die as long as she had that spirit in her. So her pivotal role in Asunder likely does happen regardless of your choices for her during Origins. But it probably plays out differently.

As for Shale, it's within the realm of possibility that she could have been reactivated and came to know Wynne without the Warden's aid.

But on the whole, yes, I believe Asunder's events are going to have a strong effect on DA3. I wouldn't be surprised if Rhys, Evangeline, Adrian, and even Cole will appear in DA3.

Although I doubt that Lambert Van Reeves will be making an appearance. xD

Yeah poor Lambert :P

As for moving the story along we are kind of in the same place we were in in DA2 generally speaking. More crazy revolution battles with Mages vs. Templars. I was hoping to get more back story on Leliana since in-game she survived DAO no matter what and it's been stated it's not a retcon. Anyway, yeah, I hope more characters from the novels come into play for whatever comes next games-wise.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person, could it? lol

It's easy to figure what happened with the Seekers and Templars after his death though.

My assumption. All the templars supported his decision to break away from the Chantry out of respect and/or fear of him. But after he was found murdered, the Seekers and Templars had a schism in their ranks. Some decided to return to the Chantry out of either faith in the Divine or sympathy for the mages, and the more prejudicial tards kept to Lambert's idea.

And Cassandra Penteghast was likely one of the ones who sided with the Chantry, given that she apparently takes orders from Leliana.

What begs to wonder is if she took Lambert's title of Lord Seeker or not.

Shale can die as well though, if you take her with you to the Anvil of the Void and support Branka. Shale aids Caridin in fighting the Warden and you're forced to kill her.

And while Branka could theoretically repair Shale with the Anvil (with or without a control rod), it's also possible to convince Branka to destroy the Anvil after siding with her. So unless a new Anvil is constructed, or Amgarrak Thaig found a way to repair broken golems and somehow get holf of Shale's remains for inexplicable reasons, or dwarven spirits trapped in golems can decide to jump into different golem bodies when they 'die', there seems to be a definite possibility that a continuity could exist where Shale is dead and never travels with Wynne.

But all that said, I believe Gaider has already confirmed that the book has its own canon. Whether or not DA3 will confirm Asunder happened regardless of player-specific DA:O and DA2 canon remains to be seen. Bioware has said they want to preserve game canon as much as possible, so there will probably be nods to events in the book that 'would have happened anyway' (such as the templars breaking from the Chantry), but anything else is likely to be allusion and implication if it's mentioned at all. So someone could say in passing that they saw a golem and a mage travelling together in Orlais, instead of naming names. Shale isn't the only golem in Thedas, after all.
