I'm sure I'm rehashing and old topic, but I'm stuck on the Wayward Son quest and can't move on to the Deep Roads until I complete it.  I tried emailing customer service but got the typical response, which was long and nice but basically said fix it yourself in the forums, so I'll give it a go, but I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. If anything, others can just share in the misery.  Segway to my plea for help - 

I moved on when this originally happened, completed all the other Act 1 quests, and even bought most of the DLC (Legacy, Black Emporium, Exiled Prince) and completed Mark of the Assassin.  I have about 25 previous saves, but unfortunately none that go back far enough to be pre-Wayward Son glitch.  Here's the problem in a nutshell:  

The journal indicates I need to search the slavers bodies for a map so I can move on.  I even think the first time around before I abandoned the quest about couple weeks ago, the quest icon showed up on the map but there was no way to get there.  If I'm not mistaken the entrance to the cave is close to where you kill the slavers.  There's a resource like deathroot and 3 NPCs with a fire.  However, the entrance to the cave is not marked and I can't  find it anywhere else on the map.  The quest icon is now missing as well on the Lowtown map, and now it just shows on the main map as a quest that needs completed (both day and night). 

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious?  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Never have experienced that glitch myself, but if you have already dealt with the slavers in Darktown (which it sounds like you have), and you don't have the map, you can try going to the caves on the Wounded Coast that the map would have directed you to. The cave in question can be reached by staying on the very path you are on when you first get to the Wounded Coast, then taking a left not far after the area where the elves and former wherewolf are talking (if that quest is available to you), Keep fallowing that path around a curve and slightly down a hill. The cave opening is on your left.

Now, having said that, I did see on the Wiki page that this quest will sometimes glitch and is NOT doable. Reloading an old save, (which sounds like it may be a problem for you), or starting over may be your only options. Here's hoping this works for you. Good luck!

I don't know about this glitch but this reminds me of the glitch in Isabela's first quest where it glitched if you picked the letter off the body before she told you to do so. Maybe that's what happened here? You grabbed the map before the game wanted you to do so? Otherwise I don't know, I've never encountered this glitch.

Indeed, I dispatched the slavers and Danzig and may have looted too quickly. It was a couple weeks ago and the details of how exactly it happened are hard to recall. I tried going to the Wounded Coast, but all the caverns were blocked by carts and no option to get in any save for one. I was surprised to find some leftover Tal Vashoth and their cavern at the top of the mountain, but there wasn't anything left to loot because I had already completed whatever quest it was a leftover from. Ah well, guess I'll just start over.

As a side note: those likely weren't leftovers, some enemy groups respawn.

The cave with Feynriel is just north of where you find Seamus. It's nowhere near the Tal Vashoth cave.

Perhaps, try to kill all enemies in an area before looting? I've heard of similar issues with quest items not appearing, though I assumed that the patches fixed that, as I have yet to encounter any such issues.

If there are groups of enemies that seem like leftovers, it's probably because a previous quest kept them from spawning. If there were respawning enemies somewhere, they would make for nice xp. In particular, during Bounty Hunter, one of the apostates will prevent a mature dragon from appearing in Sundermount while that quest is active. You just have to finish one quest, leave the area, then come back.

I never had that glitch, but I noticed, that the cave with Feynriel is indeed blocked until you get the map from Danzigs body. So there is no way around this map. But is there no cheating code available? I thought, you could give yourself plot items with the console (never tried it, but I thought, I read it somewhere here)

If all else fails, you are still in act 1, it shouldn't take too long to start over.

Yeah, just started over, wayward son completed a few days ago, had Fenris do his Fisting thing. Thanks for the suggestions all.

Are you getting hung up on the slaver in Darktown? If you're on PC, the Wiki suggests this:

*Bug! The map may not be found in any of the dropped loot, halting game progression. If this occurs either load a previous save, or obtain it via a mod by using the item ID code: mag130im_danzig_map
