By all means, whip up an ME1 crew list!

Discussions work better when people actually discuss.

No, he shouldn't have to make a list.

The list you made is incredibly dumb, for various reasons already pointed out.

ME2 was lacking in DA:O style banter.
This is what it could have had, legion infuriating everyone with logic, Mordin making everyone uncomfortable etc etc. Too many characters to manage perhaps? I think so.

Its much easier for ME1, but because there is interaction and dialogue to some extent, less relevant.

You simply could rework your initial posting.
After all, ME1 squadmates (okay - Ashley or Kaidan and Liara) will play a major role in ME3 while most of the ME2 cast won't reappear for more than a cameo or a mission or two.

That's why. I simply think you should analyze the more important squadmates for ME3 ... which means so far:

Kaidan
Liara
Ashley
Garrus
Tali
Vega
...

Just an idea, buddy ^_^

Besides that, I don't really understand where you get your ideas so far. Some are obvious, others are ... "fanon". The crew works well enough together to asume they respect or tolerate each other. Since friendships or any other relationships don't play any role in ME2 - except love interests for Shepard - your idea doesn't have a valid base.

You can do this, however, for ME3 once it's out. Since there friendships will get introduced - and not only between squadmate X and Shepard but also between squadmate X and squadmate Y.

Vega is an interesting one to speculate on.

I can't see him and Alenko getting on, Kaidan is too stiff, formal.
Ash on the other hand I think would be a different story.

Keyword: speculate.

Vega seems to hold Shepard on a decently sized pedestal.

Not sure about Kaidan, he's been dead since ME1.

Ash seems the type to at least attempt to make friends with most of the crew.

Guess if Shepard has no thing for Ash (and Vega), Ash & Vega could become a couple ...
Then again I also believe Kaidan and Ashley could have become a couple if not divided by Virmire-death.

I think Jacob treats Zaeed and Thane equally - one is bat**** insane mercenary, another is precise and emotionally alien mercenary; where's the difference? And since he obviously likes them less than other crew, I think it will move to "hate" category, while hate being not at all correct.

Further, two couples: Miranda / Mordin and Tali / Garrus.

Miranda envies the time when Mordin was with STG. She would probably note his effectiveness as well. Mordin is renegade with a sense of ethnics - and Miranda, while generally following "ends justify the means", votes for destroying Collectors base. I think both like each other.

Now Garrus / Tali. Garrus obviously likes Tali (banter on Citadel), but Tali herself? "I have shotgun". "Are you sure it's good idea?" (Tali's response on being left to protect Garrus at his recruitment mission). Hence I think her thoughts will be at "respects" category.

You're right - Jacob's problem isn't that Thane is an assassin but just a "precise" mercenary, so he would definitely be hostile Zaeed on the same grounds, but as an add-on character Zaeed didn't get the intro "welcome aboard" cutscene so it didn't come out in the game. Though Zaeed got hired by the Illusive Man directly, was paid a huge sum of money and has a reputation for always completing his contracts so he's less of an unknown to Jacob... but that still might not sit well with him based on his words.

Good point about Miranda/Mordin, which is why I think they go in the mutual respect category...

Garrus/Tali is probably a big case of your milage may very. But regardless the bond of the SSV Normandy would put them on good terms from the start, as would probably be the case if Liara, the VS or Wrex opted to come aboard.

@Cpt,

Would be interesting, and if possible, I would totally attempt this.

Weren't you just complaining about being treated with hostility for no good reason like 5 messages up?

Moving right along then...

Well Garrus didn't want Miranda to lead the fire team and even said that no one trusts her so I wouldn't say that Garrus respects Miranda.

My Garrus has never said anything in the Suicide mission, apart from his usual combat banter. He's not even involved in any conversations.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I knew you would reply to this.

You need Jack dead for Garrus to say it and here's a link to prove it . Just go to around 9:45 to 9:50 and hear Garrus say it.

Good thing you were unnecessarily hostile to me, when I didn't do anything to you.

Hostile? What I do hostile?

When you say "I just KNEW you'd reply", it comes off as hostile to the receiving party.

Maybe I should have had a smiley picture or something like :P. Anyway, I just thought you would reply because you're a huge Miranda fan.

Probably the irony of calling someone unnecessarily hostile and then doing the same thing yourself.

An excellent idea - I might throw an ME1 list together first just because it wouldn't take too much time with only 5 squad members.

Like I said before, my ideas are taken mostly from the game with some interpretation on my own -- my opinion for better or worse. Some of them are factual: Jack/Miranda, Tali/Legion, etc... Others are just gut feelings. Kasumi seems like a pretty positive person when talking to her, so she's likely to be friendly to like minded people. Grunt really doesn't give a rats ass about anybody if they won't be a good fight, so he's not really going to like or hate anybody. It's conjecture on my part, plain and simple, but I think it's interesting to talk about. :)

So you don't like the list.
Ignore it.
I'm enjoying the speculation/characteristic thinking myself.

...

Tali would not approve of vega imo. Too unprofessional and politically ignorant.
Liara even less perhaps. I always got the feeling she respects intelligence, and inspired intelligence.

Grunt respects his battlemaster and krantt.

He also respects his enemies (To a degree), if they prove worthy.

With tali/garrus/team dextro I think it's classic love/hate. Like ken and gabby in engineering, when it hits the fan they come through.

The op already said this was his opinion (multiple times) and that it's meant for discussion. I don't see why you are being so hostile about it, especially when the op has done nothing hostile so far. If anything he has been quite polite.

In what way is it contrived? Opinionated, sure, but I'm inviting and welcoming anybody's opinion. That's why I posted this to begin with... in the "Character and Romance Discussion" forum of all places.

Calling it dumb without offering any reason was a valuable, constructive contribution. Thank you so much  for your time and effort.

Actually, after Thane's recruitment mission, Jacob is unusually hostile to him when welcoming him on the Normandy. If questioned about his hostility by Shepard he explains that he doesn't like Mercenaries, and seems to show general disapproval of Thane's inclusion on the Suicide Mission.

...using that logic shouldn't he hate Zaeed?

Yes. Yes he should. Can't say I fully agree with the OP, though the idea of coming up with a squadmate relationship chart is intriguing in its own right, if only for the thought of the squad interacting with each other.

Seriously, if there's small squad interaction things in ME3 like Tali and VS playing cards, or Garrus and Vega working out together, my man-girl heart will squee in delight.

That's a lack of trust, not hatred. Only squadmates that actually hate each other is Jack and Miranda and Tali and Legion.

A big complaint I 've seen about Mass Effect fan works or even when discussing the heroes of the story is how often characters are out of character.

That's because most fans don't understand most of the characters, or sometimes any of them. And that's not limited to squadmates.

Jacob
Likes: Miranda, Shepard, Garrus, Mordin, Kasumi

Yeah, I can just tell by the way he always looks for an excuse to end every conversation you try to have with him (erm, I should get back to my duties now, bye bye!) that he really likes Shepard.

I recomment to rework that entire list. As you said you added a lot of your own ideas and didn't mark them as own ideas. That could cause some issues with toughts of other users.

Example:
I think Garrus likes Tali, maybe even a bit more than he would admit. Tali on the other hand doesn't return those feelings. She respects him but doesn't seem to be the biggest fan of Garrus. Some of her banter with Garrus is pretty much hostile tbh.

Joker seems to be pretty much okay with most of the crew but definitely likes the "old gang": Liara, Ashley, Kaidan, Wrex, Garrus and Tali. He's does respect Miranda (out of fear?). Somehow he likes Zaeed, thinks Kasumi is cute. Actually, Joker is the one of few characters that has an opinion of other squadmates.
