split part of the N7 armory from the collector edition swag and made it
into exclusive GS pre order swag

Actually, that's the point :-) The N7 Assault Rifle seems to be 'missing' from the CE and N7 Valkyrie Rifle looks like the latter one.

Remember when buying a game meant BUYING the game? Now you can pay full price for the main portion, and maybe get some of the dozens of other things if you pre-order one of five different ways.

You mean there are two versions of the CE, one with and one without the bonus char/mission???

If you do not pre-order, you likely will not find a CE.
This is why I will never have the black hole gun in ME2. Stupid, stupid business practices like this.
TROO FANZ BUY 1ST DAY.
DISREGARD SMART CONSUMERISM, ACQUIRE DIGITAL TCHOTCHKES HELD FROM RELEASE.
Seriously though, a rational explanation for this would be appreiciated.

I'm neither angry or dissapointed, I'm frustrated. All this secrecy about extra content drive me mad.

I dont mind the extra physical goodies with preorders, since they dont change the game itself. But the game additions i would like to be able to get afterwards. Weapons change the game alot, since they are linked to your playstyle, and you can never have too much armor either. I think Bioware should really rethink this favoratism concerning in-game items.

The DLC character's identity is rather spoiler-ish, hence Bioware's secrecy. The PLC wrote...
But the extra char and mission will be available to everyone, as far as I'm concerned. Why can't Bioware just tell us what the **** that extra char is?! The game is out in two months, they're telling people to "PRE ORDER NOW!!!" and yet, we still haven't got any info on this. The game is pretty much done, dammit! Just tell us already.

Then they could at least tell us if it's exclusive to the CE or if it's ME3's version of the Zaeed DLC.Candidate 88766 wrote...

Currently, we have no plans to make the CE material downloadable unless you purchase the CE. This could change in the future, but we have no plans to do so currently.

Exclusive weapons for the CE, fine. Armour and robot dogs, fine. But entire characters and mission? No...

Why not just pre-order the CE?The PLC wrote...
Righty then. If that is actually the case, I'll just cancel my pre-order right away..

Also, judging from what people who've read the script have said, the character is very interesting but doesn't really change the story in any way.

And the CE is already getting more than enough extra stuff. What DA2 did with Sebastian, making people without the 'regular' edition pay extra on day one, was inexcusable, and I honestly expected the ME team to be better than that. Perhaps I was wrong.

Ah that sucks. I'm from the UK, so I had to pay double the standard price to get the CE.The PLC wrote...
Because it's impossible to get your hands on here in Denmark. I think that Game is the only retailer selling it here in Scandinavia, and all of the Game stores was closed down here in September. That, and it's ridiculously expensive.

You don't actually get that much:
-Character/mission
-Soundtrack
-4 guns
-In-game hoodie
-Robot dog
-Comic
-Art book
-Fabric patch
Thats not worth the value of an entire extra game, not by a long shot. Take out the character and fans would have very little reason to buy it, at least in the UK. The main reason I'm willing to spend the money is that I have a bunch of Game gift cards I've gathered over the years and they all expire rather soon.

I'm pretty sure people like Casey Hudson has something to say when it comes to stuff like content included with the CE. Bioware themselves has told us that they have way more control over the project than people assume, when blaming EA for everything.didymos1120 wrote...

I admit that I was overreacting when the pre-order weapons was announed, partly for the lols and partly because I DO think that it's crap.
That said, I can live with additional weapons, armour and robot dogs for people who shell out 20 bucks extra for the Collectors Edition. It's all just extra stuff. An entire extra character and mission is not. It has dialogue, new areas and maybe even new music. The character has been planned for a very long time, so there's no reason to not make it available to everyone like they did with Zaeed.

He probably does get to put his two cents Canadian in, but this sort of thing wouldn't be left up to him alone. Plus, we have no idea what his two cents on what to make DLC may or may not have been.

Right now, it's no good for BioWare/EA to reveal it as some people might ignore the CE (£69.99) and buy the Standard Edition + DLC (£39.99 + price in £ equivalent to $10-15) instead. Especially these customers who couldn't care less for the soundtrack CD, the art book and/or extra weapons which might become useless quick early in the game.

Besides, the only people who will buy the CE will be the hardcore ME fans, and chances they already know who the DLC character is if they've spent more than a few hours on this forum.

Sorry, I should have made it more clear. I mean that considering things from the marketing point, it's not the right time to announce that the DLC would be released for everyone on Day 1. And I tend to believe that is the case. If I remember correctly, the Cerberus Network was supposed to be exclusive to the CEs (and available as a seperate purchase for other customers) but later BioWare/EA decided to bundle it with every new copy of ME2.
But I agree with you on who will be the main buyers of the CE
