Or it pushes people to go through more nefarious means of acquiring the complete game.

This is the DA2 Signature Edition fiasco all over.  People always say one of the best features of a Bioware game is the characters yet they defend nickle and diming consumers over that very feature.  The true fans justifying their fandom because they spend more money is unbelievably pathetic.

I don't mind if people who didn't get the CE get the DLC's later if they're available. I pre-ordered the CE because I also wanted the art book and the lithograph, and that patch...and not just the DLCs. >_>

So, walked into Gamestop to place an order for CE, since they just started pimping pre-order bonuses yesterday.

"Sorry, we're not taking any more orders for Collectors Edition."

So now I can:
1. Buy a standard copy with Gamestop's bonuses.
2. Try to find a CE through another Vendor and forgo GS exclusives.
3. Buy the game twice, return GS's standard if/when I get a hold of a CE.

All I want to do is play the game. I am willing to pay money to play the game. Let me pay money to play THE WHOLE GAME. Not just MOST of it. The whole thing.

If it costs more, fine. Tell me how much.

But this, right now, is Bull****

Why not order from GS online? They're still offering the CE there.

This resolves my problem and I appreciate that, but the real issue remains that I have to now go through VERY specific channels to ensure I get the better portion of this game, still minus a few retailer specific items.

This situation also happened to ME2, should have looked in the past about it. After November of the previous year, Gamestop had already sold off all of their Quota for ME2 Collector's Edition. Was this unexpected? This is a limited supply, first come first serve version of the game. Very unlikely that only 4 months prior to game release, CE editions would still be available.

Next time preorder the game from your preferred gaming store right when the CE is announced to ensure that you will get that version. I had been unable to obtain a CE for ME2, so way back in April I fully purchased my CE. No way was I going to miss out on a CE for the last installment in the trilogy.

In short: tough luck. Image IPB

*Rant on*

I don't understand why people who elect to purchase the standard edition of Mass Effect 3 (or any other franchise with a collector's edition for that matter) feel they are entitled to the collector's edition content. It's a collector's edition for a reason.

*Rant off*

That aside, I still believe the only way Bioware will give the standard edition people what they want is the same way they have done with "The Old Republic"; offer a $20 upgrade to the digital deluxe edition through either Origin (oh,no <sarcastically>), or using the equivalent in MS/ Bioware Points.

Well, I imagine I'm not the only one who is very interested in obtaining the extra character and mission to get the full in-game experience. The problem is, if you're outside North America the price for a CE copy of the game is ridiculous.

Hopefully BW recognises this and offer the character and mission for separate purchase.

All I want is the in-game items.  I have no use for a lithograph, soundtrack, vial of Tali sweat, an N7 keychain or any other cheap stuff studios love to throw in their special editions.  Give me all the pre-order items in a special edition and I'm there for the $80 price gouge.  I wish we could get another variation of the Collector's Edition without all the (imo!) superfluous crap.  I know the reason for that is so consumers aren't "confused."  Kind of funny considering all the retailer pre-order variations.

Well then hope they offer them via XBL or Bioware pts.

As it stands the offer include "superfluous" things for a certain amount of $ either buy it or don't. (although I think for countries outside US or Canada it should be the equivalent of 20 USD in that currency).

I preordered the CE in Sept, and think that people should have the option to buy the Character. Don't get righteous and indignant as you have the option to get it and have had that option since last Aprilish, surely enough time to save some extra money.

Fast forward to May '12 people who bought the Standard edition will be complaining that the extra char costs 800-1000 MS points and feel ripped off and jaded etc. the cycle will never end on BSN

I wouldn't have a problem with the exclusive character and mission becoming available to everyone else through a DLC in the future. Actual gameplay and missions/characters that expand the story shouldn't be exclusive to what edition of the game you buy. However, things like the weapons and squadmate alternate appearances I'd think would be fairly likely to remain CE only.

Same, I agree. Even Sebastian in DA2 was completely non essential, I hardly ever used him. He did provide a few good quests and dialouge though.

I would have been content with the CE for $20 even without the squaddie

I remember the Sebastian character from Dragon Age II while I never played it. Bioware specifically said the CE gets early access; like another franchise I have been comparing collector's editions from.

My point is Bioware is by no means obligated to "give" access to the additional character and mission to people who purchased the standard edition of Mass Effect 3. If they do it, you should be grateful but I am sure Cloaking_Thane is right and people will then complain about the price.

i wish the in game content was available to everyone. it only makes sense to have everything the game offers at your disposal.

i also wish i could buy a sortof bundle for everything in game, instead of buying the CE at gamestop for all its extra stuff. im buying the CE solely for the in game stuff. i dont care about the lithograph, or one of their crappy ME comics. if anyone wants that crap from my CE send my your address and money for postage.

Cute, keep smiling while I break this down for you.

*We are two months out from launch. This is about the time solid information should be coming out.
*On cue, the pre-order promo videos hit the web two days ago.
*The advertising did it's job of informing me that it was time to secure a pre-order, I went in the next day.
*Hard copy, brick and mortar, give-cash-recieve-product methods are already depleted. Why?

The beta hasn't even gotten a solid date yet, and I'm unable to easily secure the complete version of the game. The one that contains an additional character and more gameplay that apparently will be ready for launch, but only if you were willing to invest in the game 3-4 months ahead of schedule.

Hard loot (Art book, tin case, soundtrack) I can understand being limited, and if that was the problem, then so be it.
But we're talking digital content. As in "PRINT ME UP SOME MORE 1's AND 0's, THESE ****S WANT THE WHOLE GAME".

Let me tl;dr what Priestly said earlier this thread about any of that content showing up later.

Priestly implied...

I'm not going to say no... but the answer is definitely no.

What is so difficult to understand here?
"What is the price if I am interested in buying THE WHOLE GAME? Leave out the kid's toys, I don't really need an art book or the soundtrack, just sell me THE WHOLE GAME."

^Was in Game earlier today and saw all the new CE promotional boxes out - pretty awesome how they're using Femshep on the picture :D

One thing I noticed though was that the soundtrack wasn't listed on the box - I hope we still get that!

Collector's editions of media, movies or games, used to mean physical bonus items, a model replica, a hologram card, a behind the scenes book/movie. In short *actual extra content*

Collector's Editions should not mean the finished product sliced into 15 different pieces and giving most of it back at a higher price assuming you buy it at the correct store before the product hit's the shelves.

I'm sorry but you don't buy a standard car that only comes with 3 tires where the upgraded model has all 4 tires, a spare and depending on where you buy it a choice of airbag, passenger side headrest or rear-view mirror.

The problem isnt "collector editions cost more" the problem is 'standard editions don't come with the complete game'

What is "complete"?

I'm curious.

I never understand the logic(not claiming its bad logic, just different to my own) that the standard edition of the game isn't "complete".

Why isn't it complete?

Because its lacking all the preorder bonuses? Because it doesn't include DLC's?

Some people believe that the developers cut out parts of the game to sell later. If that was true(and I'm sure for some games it was), it would be a dirty way to make money.

Others believe as I do, that these extra items are just that. Extra. Adding to the total package.

The standard edition of the game is 100% of it. The Collector's Edition is 105%.

That 5% isn't vital, it isn't necessary, it isn't going to make or break the game.

I believe its the differing opinions of optimists and pessimists in here on the subject. Some believe they are being slighted, others believe they are being gifted.

Doubt anyone will convince anyone else to believe otherwise.

Still, its interesting to think about how people see these DLCs, whether positively or negatively.

Personally, I've preordered the Collector's Edition from Gamestop. I'll get all the goodies, and I'm glad I'll have them.

For those who make the choice, keyword "choice", not to purchase the CE, I feel you shouldn't ever be able to acquire said items.

For those who don't have an option and can't acquire the items as I did, I feel you should have an alternate option of getting them. And no, I'm not talking about people who spent their money on groceries instead of games. That was a smart choice, but there it is- choice.

I'm talking about those in other countries who unfortunately don't have a retailer around them carrying said items. When you literally CAN'T get the items, I think it'd be nice if a way was given to you.

Its a complicated situation, lots of differing opinions and stances, no one opinion having more weight than another.

For those of you who do end up getting the items, congratulations. For those who don't, bummer. However the situation is handled, I hope the greatest number of slighted people are satiated without causing grief in anyone else.

Question is, how do we go about that?

One thing about the robo-dog fenris mech though-

It will neeeeever match up to Rabbit(DAO mabari) or Urz(ME2 varren companion on Tuchanka).

Possibly won't even match up to my Fable 2 dog.

But we'll see...
