I apologize in advance if this is somewhere else...
Got into Haven and Sten pitched his fit. He wanted to throw down and it didn't end well for him.
He asked something to the effect of "Where do we go from here?" to which I replied "Do what you think is right."
I thought that was a pretty 'middle of the road' way to put it to him. Get back in line didn't seem all that forgiving to me. I thought that we would all go on with our lives.
I got +7 approval from Sten message but he was no longer in my party.
Has he gone for good? Was the only way to keep him to tell him to get in line?
If I leave Haven to grab another body (or get Sten back) will I be allowed back in to continue through the temple or will that end the quest 'unsuccessfully?
Thanks for any help.

Sten doesn't want forgiving. He wants a hard-line military officer to take command, so commanding him back into line is the way to go to keep him in the party.
I think he's gone for good. I don't recall how many dialogue options there were, so it may not be the *only* way, but I know the "get back in line" worked for me. But you can leave Haven and come back to it, if you need to get another party member.

I remember Sten kicking my butt then I reloaded and took away his armor, ha ha.

Thanks for the info.
If he's gone for good, so be it - at least I sent him away with a world-class mage ass-kicking! I only wish I hadn't just equipped him with some kick-butt armor...I could have sold that!

I always used the sarcastic "it'll never see it coming" response to his "go south until it becomes north and attack from the rear" comment. Cracks me up.

Yeah, the "Get back in line" comment did the trick as far as keeping him in the party was concerned. Although I then substituted him for Wynne immediately (and ran with that squad for the remainder of the game).
By the way, why do you need to leave Haven to replace Sten, when the 'change party' option is available at that point?

@Neven - I saw the +7 go up but I want to say I didn't notice any 'Change Party' notification at that point.
Last night I went home and went from Haven to the Party Camp. I had forgotten all about it. There I saw that Sten, in fact, has left the building. He was my tank - but oh well. Whenever I would lose track of a battle he always seemed to be the first to die. Maybe he wasn't as useful as I thought.
I also wanted to craft some weapons. I found out that there is a dwarf there that can make that happen. So I wanted to leave Haven mometarily for that reason as well.
