82 minutes of cutscenes? 82 minutes of awesome.

Happy as a panda over here.

Why?  Watching a cutscene is not gaming.  Its cinema.  I maintain my argument that cutscenes are an inferior way to tell a story in a game-setting.  They are inevitable, but it seems that BW has increasingly invoked their use through the years.  You're not buying ME3 for an interactive movie, are you???

82 minutes over 30+ hours is not that much.

It's better than 67 minutes over 30+ hours.

Millions of Metal Gear Solid fans would like to disagree.

Just pulled out my calculator and did the math; it's between 4 and 5 percent. For every minute you spend watching cutscenes, there's over 20 that you won't be.

I wonder how the 82 minutes are counted?

82 minutes over one playthrough, or 82 minutes in total across all possible playthroughs?

Also, what counts as a cutscene? Does Renegade Interrupt scenes count as cutscenes, or dialogues?

An additional 20-odd minutes doesn't seem too bad. At least we can probably safely assume that they're not going to be Final Fantasy-style cutscenes (aka annoyingly long ones that can put you in a coma). Of course, if there are any annoyingly long cutscenes then at least they can help with my occasional insomnia.

Good point iOnly. What is a cutscene?

As for the 5% part, it seems like very little, however I would assume (yes, I know), that the cutscenes convey important parts (if not the majority) of the storyline. Thus, the bulk of the STORY is being told through cinema, not in game experiences (see Zelda SS, Portal II, Bioshock and others I'm sure)!

That's my grievance. If BW is known for telling a story, that is the most important part of ME3 in many people's eyes. Cutscenes, for lack of better word, can be labelled the lazy way of accomplishing that. I recognize, though, that cutscenes are an industry standard. I'm relunctantly accepting.

Except that interactive storytelling is exactly what BioWare specialize in. 'Y got the wrong game, buddy.

Uh, yes... pretty much. :P

I would loath ME1/2 if it lost all its cinematics (including gameplay cinematics).  They're woven seamlessly into the game and they're getting better at it with each game.  Imho, the storytelling would be really limited if it was done entirely through gameplay; you would miss out on all sorts of little things that gives the experience so much more life and depth e.g. you wouldn't see Shepard's body language or face when she sees David Archer at the end of Overlord (instead, you'd get the back of Shepard, either holding a gun or just walking/running in the most innappropriate way possible).   Also, you'd miss out on a lot of awesome scored music.

I'd guess it's the absolute total, since the amount of cutscene you get between playthroughs probably differs somewhat.

I could go for 10 hours of cut-scenes for an ME game...a lot of hard work goes into them, and it's nice to take a little break and just sit back, watch, and appreciate what was made.

Cut scenes works for Mass Effect, while no cut-scenes works for games like Half-Life.

Edit: infrequent strong violence. Infrequent? For an all out war?

Note that the previous games violence was only considered "moderate".  So this is probably a step up in the level of gore.

Theres DEFINITELY some "gore". Blood splatter shown in the new n7 warfare gear trailer. Shep stabs a cannibal i believe, and theres some blood splatter.

Im thinking theres a large amount of cutscenes because theres so many different ways to play it. Many different outcomes to certain missions - remember BW said some teammates can die and if the player does a certain action. PLUS theres multiple endings. So the game is pretty much the same as ME2, just more alternate scenes - providing replay value to see them all. Didnt BW say that its generally the same length as ME2? Either way - looks like the games more intense and actiony, so the cutscenes are going to be badass no matter what amount.

Melee combat usually ups the gore level.  One reason why the DA games both get 18s for "Strong Bloody Violence".  Though Skyrim seems to get away with a 15 despite my nord warrior's penchant for beheading people.

I know there is deep hatred for cut-scenes among RPG fans. but the way I see it they only enhance the story telling and am quite disappointed that there isn't more. oh well.

So the Bioware nuts that crave nothing but story and characters whilst shunning anything combat gameplay related get some nice lengthy cutscenes involving said story and characters in the FINAL game of the trilogy and still find something to complain about it.

You never fail to disappoint do you BSN....
