Using cryo ammo and then heavy shockwave on Normal mode useful?

I was thinking a Vanguard build with cryo ammo and heavy shockwave for fun.  Would the shockwave be enough force to break a frozen enemy?  ^_^    (the throw effect of shockwave seems like it would be more fun than just shattering them with slam or charge)

Wish there was a way to use throw and cryo ammo as using cryo blast and throw takes to long to be useful.

Doesn't the shatter have to do with them running out of health when frozen? So if they have less health than your shockwave deals damage they should break. Which means it sort of depends... I don't know that you will ever have it strong enough to shatter them when they are at full health.

Frozen enemies will shatter when they die, regardless of how they die (bullets, throw, reave, and so on). Frozen enemies take more weapon damage, and force powers such as Throw or Shockwave are stronger against frozen targets.

The problem I find with trying to shatter a frozen enemy with a force power (Throw, Shockwave, Concussive Shot) is that it does not always seem to kill the enemy. I have see Concussive Shot kill a frozen enemy, but Area/Heavy Throw only bounce the same enemy around the map. Also, it takes about 1-2 seconds for an enemy to become completely frozen, so if you cast Shockwave during the freezing animation, Shockwave will not knock the enemy around.

Cryo Ammo plus Shockwave could work, but I generally avoid Cryo Ammo or Cryo Blast when using biotics in general, since the freezing effect can cancel out biotic effects.

Ryoldshool had some fun with a Cryo Blast + Throw Sentinel. Thisisme8 also ran with a Cryo Blast + Throw Sentinel.

Ryoldschool's two best videos are probably these two. You also may want to check out the outtakes at the end of this video, where a frozen Tela Vasir gets sent into orbit and the game fails to register her as dead. Repeatedly.

Red is right, those are probably my best videos with the sentinel freeze/throw.  Adept has the best physics, but does not have access to cryo blast ( unless you bring Mordin ) or cryo ammo.

Maybe Mi-Chan can comment on vanguard shockwave ( he did a complete run ), but I don't recall many shatters in his videos.

GLaDOScake, I just tested Cryo Ammo with Heavy Shockwave. Shockwave ignores frozen enemies. I recorded it so I will edit the video and post it to YouTube later. I will provide the link once it is up. (My channel is here).

Hey, thanks.  Was about to be Vanguard because of the cryo ammo and shockwave already available but if shockwave ignores frozen enemies it's a no go.  :pinched:    Maybe slam?  Not as fun as launching them though.

Video is now up. Shockwave ignores frozen enemies. Just another knock against Shockwave.

As for Slam, a lot of players take Slam on the Vanguard since it has a very short cooldown (3 seconds base cooldown) so it does not interfere with Charge, and if you have Miranda or Thane as squadmates, you can use their Warp to detonate enemies who are in midair during slam. Slam may be able to shatter frozen enemies. I will not bother to test that.

Nice, got it on video.  It's hard to post something new on youtube but I don't think this has ever been tested and recorded before.  Thanks.

I just did Mordin's LM with Miri and was trying to shatter frozen enemies with Slam.  Granted I just had rank 1 on her.

It didn't really work out all that great.  Rank 1 anyway doesn't do a lot of damage / hit with a lot of force, so that may have been part of the problem.  Did get some shatters, but with low health enemies, or those that were being fired upon at the same time.

I respecced my first Vanguard to be more of a Cryo Vanguard when I went back to play all the DLC (Kasumi, Overlord, Shadow Broker). I had the more damaging evolution of Slam, and it would shatter enemies sometimes. I had to get them down to about 75% health for Slam to shatter at rank 4, but it did work.

I am bumping this because I was thinking about it... I already had cryo / shockwave combo in video form

N7 Finale: Like a Hurricane

Skip to 2:27 if you don't want to watch it all... it is Hahne-Kedar Facility with Mordin and Jack.  Mordin has cryo blast and Jack has Improved Shockwave.  There is some freezing and shockwave... sometimes the mechs shatter.  It didn't ignore them.  Not all the time anyway... a couple in the middle of animations didn't get hit.

Old Blood Rev2

This was with Miri and Rank 1 slam... Mordin had Cryo Blast and there was Sq Cryo Ammo.

Not Vanguard but sort of the same power.

I watched that video again to see what was happening. Perhaps Shockwave may affect frozen LOKI mechs differently since they can lose individual body parts? For some of them, I could make the argument that the mechs were not completely frozen when hit with Shockwave, but that does not explain all of them.

Yeah I don't know. Might be a difference between heavy and improved, or a difference between Shepard and Jack's shockwaves.
