Having problems getting BG1 to install on my laptop, tried changing compatibility and running as administrator but to no avail, has anyone been able to install it on windows 7?, BG2/ToB installed without any problems. Cheers in advance for any hints/advice to bypass it=)

BG1 should run fine in Windows 7 without any need to run as administrator or use compatibility settings, but you do need to make sure you don't install it to the default Program Files location (set up a folder something like c:\\games\\BG1) . I would also advise a complete installation, i.e. install all movies etc.

Some people have reported problems in getting the installer to work properly and advised closing all other programmes first as some may interfere with the installer.

Its the start-up that fails, I get the initial screen and choose install but nothing appears. Don't get far enough to choose a directory.

That sounds like a conflict with something else on your computer. You could try starting your computer in windows safe mode to restrict the number of things that are running and then see if BG1 will install.

My installation was on Windows 7 and no problem, though I did make sure that I didn't install under program files as I know that modding can then be quite a problem. It could be a dirty or scratched disc of course. It could also be a virus protection program that is causing the problems. Disconnecting from internet and disabling your firewall might help. (Disconnecting from internet is just for virus protection whilst you have no firewall and probably not necessary, but better safe than sorry)

Double-click setup.exe on the disk instead of using the autorun install button. I'm fairly sure that works in this scenario.

I've had to install Baldur's Gate in safe mode recently (Windows 7).
I dont know why but the setup never starts.
Last time I just opened XP-Mode and installed the game there, (so I didnt have to restart).
You might want to use that if you have that option installed (Xp-Mode that is).
