It sucks because we're basically having these crappy comics forced on us as canon. I personally do not consider ME: Evolution canon, but officially it is. If these comics are not being well received, then maybe Bioware should rethink its approach.
You shouldn't assume that how you've received them is how they've been received in general.
I assumed that based on general observation of any thread on any forum that brings up the ME comics.

Well, that's also a poor assumption. The forums aren't the entirety of the readership either. And, you know, it's the BSN: "persnickety" is a way of life around here.

Pretty sure his point is to not assume, but go into your local comic/book store and look at them for yourself and make a critical judgement then. If you can't, that's fine, but people really should speak from personal experience rather than try to pass others opinions as their own.

Actually, my (revised) point was not to assume that you (well, not you "you", but Ramus "you") have the first idea as to how well-received the ME comics are outside of the BSN microcosm. My initial point was to not mistake your own experience for anything but your own experience. Although the point you thought was my point is also a good point.

I'm just more confused about the release date for these comics when I read the announcement. They get released in April? AFTER Mass Effect 3? hm...
Yeah, and? There's not enough time to release another 4-issue miniseries before the game comes out.

What do you want from a fit, well built marine? They could make him a woman if thats what you want.

Actually, he looks like quite a few Rangers I've seen throughout my years involved in the military. I was initially unfavorable towards his appearance (hair cut was a bit silly and the initial profile shots made him look...weird) and made assumptions I should not have.
I'm much more warmed up to him now, his VO sounds amazing, and I'm looking forward to having him in my squad.
I'm hoping you will be pleasantly surprised when the game is released.

Personally I am curious about him since he is essentially shep's guardian up to (and perhaps during) ME3. One of my favorite bioware characters is Aveline, who was also the guardian of the main character in her game, which might be why vega sparks my interest.

I'm actually quite surprised at the hate toward vega considering how little we know about him but I think I can understand after seeing his introduction comic, it wasn't all that flattering of him. (but then again it is pretty hard to fit so much characterization in so few pages with only a few balloons of dialogue)
People were saying the exact same things long before the mini-comic. It's all ultimately based on his appearance, with some help from the forum's obsession with finding anything that can be construed as being GoW-esque and griping about it. If anything, the comic actually gained him some converts.

I'm actually one of those converts. I didn't have much of an opinions about him before the comic, and I think his comic is hilariously bad, but it did peak my interst in him if only because he will be guarding shep from subversive elements while he is stuck in holding.

I hope Dark Horse keeps it up with that excellent and consistent art style.

Not
that sexy to me, but whatever floats your boat man. Although I do have
to say dark horse has been getting better artwise, at least recently. I think they are finally getting acclimated to ME's style. The recent aria comic is a good example.

While I do want to read it because I always want to know more about the Mass Effect universe, and because I am hopeful that they'll cover characters such as Kaidan (esp. Kaidan) and Wrex, I know I'll be disappointed since it's likely to fall in the same problems I've had with the others, and it'll follow BioWare's favorite characters AND ONLY THEM. I'm just sick of the whole Garrus/Liara/Tali/Kahlee Sanders focus.

Well, I have to say, I'm not really looking forward to this. I've only fully read one of the mini series (the one with TIM) and I didn't like it (both the art and how poor the story was told/written, not to mention how it broke canon).

Liara and Kahlee could be seen as a possible favored character by Bioware but why Garrus and Tali? What extra content have they been getting? Hell Kahlee Sanders is about as favored of a character as Captain Anderson and she is basically a recurring novel character like Anderson is but he also is in the games.
Garrus coming back in ME3 makes sense since it isn't like they have some major commitment anywhere else. Tali doesn't even want to really become admiral (or seemed like she didn't) Garrus doesn't want to go back to the Citadel either. Hell they can even get killed in the Suicide mission. Garrus and Tali are more fan favorites than really favored by Bioware.

They (Garrus and Tali) get a lot of focus product wise and promotion wise.1136342t54 wrote...

I don't agree with you about Sanders being on the same level as Anderson, as he isn't in the games all that much. He's in the books a bit more than he is in the games, but the books focus on Sanders more and more with each instalment. She's argubly the main character in the books.

The reason that the books focus on Kahlee and Anderson is
because it tries to desperately avoid an awkward situation in which it messes
with canon. A character from the games can't even show or the events cannot go
beyond anything more than being briefly mentioned. The books act like the games
are nothing but background plot because they have been written that way to keep
up the image that everybody had their play through and there is no 'canon'
approach.
I'm also sick of the damned focus on some specific characters, but I don't
agree with that on Garrus and Tali. They don't seem to appear even that much.
While Garrus is certainly one of the most focused on characters, he's definitely
more absent than the rest. I honestly have gotten sick of Liara and the shimmering
blue wave of 'plot' shield there. Liara gets a lot of focus, because the
Bioware writers played favourites and never invented a situation in which she
may die.
There, rant over.
