The sad thing is, OP is serious. And even sadder is that ME3 will feature a male/male "romance".
ME4 defaultShep will probably be a black Afro-African lesbian woman with only one leg. Just to be sure.
To be fair that would be a kickass protagonist.

The trailer is not made to champion tolerance and equality. The trailer is made to get the game positive attention and MAKE MONNAH! I really don't see how you could confuse the two.
You see, 80% of players used the male protaganist, and 20% used the female. There is no reason to suspect that will change significantly in ME3. So.. in order to generate the most revenue, you advertise with ..guess what.. the MALE PROTAGANIST! If you going to spend millions to make a trailer you are going to want it to generate millions for you when the game comes out.
Money > a misplaced sense of PC. Always!

There's nothing 'misplaced' about the desire to see a female PC being advertised in a game where it's an option to play as one. Making mention of the fact that you can play as either gender probably wouldn't hurt sales, either: the people who only play as men could do so and the people who play as women could also do so. Win/win!

While they're at it, why don't the advertise the SS romance too? That'll definitely get the game more sales.

The OP sounds like she hasn't spent a lot of time on the BSN, so she didn't really know what to expect. I feel for her.
Trailers are not made to coddle minority fan groups, but they are made to draw in new fans. It's not such a terrible thing to ask for advertising that appeals to a wider range of fans. After all, if more people play Bioware games, they will make more games. So it behooves both the company and fans to have an interest in drawing in as many new players as possible, whether they're male or female.
But yeah, everyone knows girl gamers only play the Sims franchise and World of Warcraft. And those games don't make ANY money, right???

Ok, so you're taking the semi-reasonable approach..
How would one appeal to a wider range of fans? Frankly, if they did ads with both femshep and manshep it'd be more likely to confuse the hell out of the ME laymen then interest them. And it's not like games with similar options do ads with both male and female protaganists. Not much that I've seen, anyway.
And of course, making the trailer for femshep would probably take about as much time and money as manshep-to appeal to a much less lucrative fanbase for this franchise. It's not about what will make ANY money, it's about what will make the MOST money. If accounting says you got the money to do one trailer, which one will you make it with? It's a pretty obvious decision. Remember: Money!

Male Gamer gets his beaten/showed up by a Female Gamer. Male Gamer realises his masculinity is threatened, so he uses the "I let you win.." line.

I don't even keep my wireless adaptor plugged in the xbox, unless downloading content. I get sick of the idiots, the younger ones have no patience.(and they wonder why they get there butts kicked...) For every decent male gamer Ihave met, ten more crack stupid kitchen jokes.

I think we both agree, money is good. It can be exchanged for goods and services.
The thing about marketing is that a well executed advertising campaign should and can appeal to many demographics. Think about the most memorable ads you've ever seen. Do you think they only appealed to 18 to 35 year old white males? Or perhaps their appeal was more universal than that? Why wouldn't a marketing campaign want to lure in as many people as possible?
I know your initial post was worded to be inflammatory and adversarial towards female posters, but if you're serious at all, I don't see why you'd be against a trailer consisting of ingame footage of FemShep. The cost wouldn't be prohibitive, it would attract new players, and at this point, it would be fulfilling the promise that Bioware marketing has already made. NOT putting out a FemShep trailer would reflect poorly on those who told fans that a FemShep trailer is on the way. So why in the world would they back out at this point?

I wish at least one Bioware RPG would feature a female PC. Or a black PC. Anything but a white human male would please me, really. With all the species and races available to sci fi and fantasy, it's sad that refuge is always taken in the familar western 'Hero'.
In my opinion, they always use a white male protagonist because it's safer. White males tend to be the least easily offended demographic because they are the privileged majority, thus you have a lot more wiggle room when i t comes to writing plot without having to worry about unintentionally offending a group of people.
Oh, I don't disagree that it's safe. It's familiar, like I said. A comfort zone. If it's working and making money, why change it?
I just wish they would.
Edit: It's news to me that a fem!Shep version of the trailer is in the works, so thank you for the tip, thread. I get the feeling I shouldn't hold my breath though?
