My copy of Neverwinter Nights Complete won't install on my Vista Home Premium 64-bit computer. I cannot even get a compatibility tab when in the properties menu for the installer. Is there a way to install, or did I buy a lemon?
Complete-ly incompatible

Never heard of that version of NWN2, but it passed its sixth birthday a couple of months ago, and the official requirements only say this:
Minimum System Requirements:
- Windows XP
- 512MB System RAM
- Pentium 4 2.6 GHz or Athlon XP 2200 or equivalent
- 128MB Direct3D compatible video card with DirectX 9.0c compatible driver
(GeForce 6800 or Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card with SM 2.0 or better)
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
- 4.6GB free hard disk space
- DirectX 9.0c (included)
- DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
- Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework for toolset (included)
- Broadband connection for multiplayer online play
- Keyboard, Mouse
It doesn't appear that Vista existed yet, back then.

Wasn't "Complete" the name of the recently released version with NWN1 + 2 + all expansions? I guess the question is what kind of format was this released in. I have to assume that the installers for NWN1 and NWN2 were still separate. Is that the case? If so, which installer is giving you problems?

Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? Did NWN1 install? (There have been a few hoops to go through to install NWN1) So, you're saying the disk is not working?

This topic is of interest to me as well. I purchased NWN Complete today from gamestop, and neither of the discs run in my computer at all. Doesn't automatically start when I put the disc in, and if I double click the D drive in My Computer, it pops the tray and says "Insert Disc". Sounds like you got further than I did.

This is a project i am working on, which is pretty broad in scope hence this being alpha, but i've added various buttons which allow you to easily install various required packages for NWN2. This is aimed at mostly convenience really, and while it's in development, it should be stable enough to be worth using it.
Not sure how comfortable you are using something like this, but i have been adding features which i hope make things easier for users posting issues in the tech support forums here, as there are a lot of required packages. What i did was research what you should need, and included an application that Microsoft provides for programmers to make sure things are up to date.
Never launcher
Just launch the program, click on the Install Tab.
Then click "Install DirectX 9.0c". This starts the correct web installer developed by microsoft, which downloads the files you need and fixes anything wrong with your DirectX 9.0c. Per their documentation for programmers they say you should just reinstall it using this package instead of testing if given files are installed.
For toolset click ".Net 3.5" which opens the web installer for .Net
Most of the other buttons are required by various community projects ( mostly for skywings work ), but those libraries being there should not cause any harm, and if they are out of date might cause some issues. If you click them all, you should not have to deal with these sorts of issues anymore.
Note that even if you have these installed, these buttons will verify all files required and replace any corrupt, out of date, or missing files to the latest files as recommended by microsoft - i would suggest running these periodically ( annually perhaps as it should not need it very often ) or when you are experiencing odd problems since they can repair these libraries.
Now this project is in development, so some of the other features need to be treated with caution until i get a lot more feedback from users, but should make things easier overall, and seems like they won't cause end users problems.

painofdungeoneternal, your suggestion got me the error message, "An exception of class RegistryAccessErrorException was not handled," after extracting to the C: (hard drive) of my HP computer. My mistake or yours?

Oops, sorry about that, Something for me to investigate, not seen anyone having that error yet. Exactly where did you run into that, but that is really off topic here and i only suggested since i could not see it having any error at all lol. Must be code looking at if the game is installed properly or not ( it just reads the registry to see if there are the values the game sets on the system ).
What is the OS version you are running, video card and the like. The above error might be related to whatever the problem you have running the game. There is a list of details requested about a system when you post technical issues listed in another thread, all of which is very helpful in answering questions.
Since you have it there, the 9.0c web installers are in the "Installers" subfolder, and you can just run them from the filesystem. dxwebsetup.exe is 9.0c and .Net 3.5 is dotNetFx35setup.exe which are the 2 main ones you need to run. They will download what is needed ( those files are what they tell programmers to include with their installer CD's ).

Great!
Could you post again to tell everyone what you finally had to do to achieve success?
It might help others in the future who are having similar problems.

Hello
I installed neverwinter nights 2 a couple of days ago and it was running fine. Today my computer got a virus so to get rifd of it I had to restore the computer to its settings from an earlier date to remove the virus. Now i cannot find the program to run neverwinter nights 2. Under my documents I have found some files such as save data and folders related to neverwinter nights two however some of them are empty which seemed odd. In addition, I cannot run the installer again because every time I start up the installer it becomes non responsive at the first screen. Any help would be really appreciated.

I followed the recommendations in painofdungeoneternal's posts. Basically, just download his/her kit and install all the items he/she specified.

In that case, for clarity for anyone looking at this in the future, the solution is to install Direct X 9.0cJohnZ117 wrote...
