If you don't feel some sort of connection to either one of them stay single. There are new romances in ME3 or stay with your ME1 partner if you had one.

Go with Thane, he has a sweet romance, and you get a very nice love letter from him in LotSB.

Well OP, just pick the one that you like the most. Really, I think that even though Bioware made the romances a certain way, it's still up to you how you interpret them. Everyone says that Garrus' romance is a gag romance, or w.e. but the way I see it is that he really is afraid of hurting Shepard, in any way. He screwed up his life, and he doesnt want to do that to Shep. It starts off with a casual "lets blow off steam" thing, but hey some relationships start off playful/not serious and turn into something serious, something REAL. He's awkward because, well of course your bodies aren't the same.
Thane is just so sweet because though he isn't awkward like Garrus, it's still something new for him and he treasures you as his Siha. He knows he's a dying man but falls for you anyway, you could never replace his wife, but sometimes they say to deal with a past love is to fall in love again. It's the same thing with Garrus, it's odd because your human but looking past the different species, and seeing that person for just them, makes it love.

But that's just my opinion of the matter. /end rant
(Sorry about the wall of text!)

Garrus, because it's only hollow NOW because it starts off as a "Why the hell not?" Sort of romance, but in ME3, it goes deeper if you let it.

I romanced Garrus once, and he's my bro and all, but it was a little awkward. However, the dev tweets got me thinking I might keep him around as an LI in one ME3 playthrough.

I could never get past Thane's family baggage or the dreaded Drell cancer, but it looks very sweet from the youtube vids.

All my other shepards are belong to Kaidan

@leborum - That tweet... Oh my :') My heart sunk to the bottom of my heart. Yes, that is possible. :P

Siha,

I write this with a heavy hand, knowing you will read this letter when I am no longer able to share my thoughts. I am dying, Siha. Perhaps because of the differences between our species, I can hope that time will treat you with kindness and dim the hurt of my passing to faded recollections that a drell would forever remember with perfect clarity.

Selfishly, however, I could not leave this world without leaving a piece of me behind that would never fade.

I once accepted my fate. Nothing remained but a shell destined to die. I only had to choose the when and how of my passing. I had refused to be confined to a bed, gasping horribly as my life beeped away to machinery I had no use for. I thought of my Irikah, broken, bloodied, and betrayed by my absence. Of Kolyat, small and afraid, bravely pushing at his eyes to stem the flow of tears I had entrusted to him to cry... for both our sakes.

The expectation to move swiftly to my end vanished upon uniting with your cause. You awoke me, Shepard. My heart quickened its sluggish beat if only to remain at your side and protect you with everything that I am. I was content to simply watch, take the time left given and praise all I know for allowing me to walk my final days with hope and certainty that I am worthy of more than my cold isolation, solely because you believed.

I love you. If all else whispers back into the tide, know this for fact. By grace given me by the Goddess Arashu, I bid her divine protection to you, my warrior-angel, my Siha, to succeed in your destiny. To light your path through the coming darkness. To give you hope, when all seems lost.

I will await you across the sea.

Thane

I thought going after the aliens is the only right way, considering human males are boring as hell in the game :D
I personally favor Thane, but Garrus comes close second :)

Okay well I romanced both - so here's my <personal> opinion on Thane and Garrus (TL;DR at bottom):

THANE: Some people say Garrus' romance seemed random and rushed, but I found Thane's to be even more so. You'll understand if you watch the vids. I mean.. a few missions together and all of a sudden there's deep feelings brewing @_@. Of course, this is a personal opinion, and in real life I am a person extremely wary of others so it shouldn't surprise one to see my standpoint.

However, I found Thane's romance extremely touching and rewarding. Some are disturbed because of the whole dead wife thing, but it's just a part of who he is. He lost Irikah for reasons you guys should know. To me, if you love someone that deeply, you can't just part with those feelings. No matter how many years pass. Plus, the responsibility he had as husband must have weighed deeply on him. To me, those are the traits of a good man. He doesn't forget his sins, but also finds a way to move on. In this case he just needed a huge smack in the head from Shepard :P. I don't think just any ordinary woman could be with him.

GARRUS: If you recruit Garrus in ME1 then you already have some good history together. After that it's all on you to hit on him lol. Garrus certainly feels like the type that could never pull the first move on Shepard. At the same time, I kind of get this idea that he's not wholly against one-night-stands (obviously) and has that.. "fiery" side to him that is just really well-hidden. I like Garrus because he's cute and I find Turians to be really attractive. His awkward conversations just make me chuckle :).

We must remember that all the crew members have feelings and can fall in love. Samara chooses to live by the code so I respect her wish to abstain from relationships. The more you talk to Garrus the more I find he's just a cute little boy beneath that harsh exterior. I think he's just looking for some comfort and support after all the hardships he has been through, and Shepard knows better than anyone. It also helps that Shepard is a strong and assertive woman who can lead Garrus through the tough times and in taking the next step ;)

TL;DR
Thane is a man deeply connected with his emotions. He is a good husband and takes responsibility. I was touched by his romance.
Garrus is cute but deeply scarred by his recent troubles. He needs an assertive woman like Shepard to help him take the next step. He wouldn't shag Shepard just because she asked - he could just say he's in the middle of some calibrations so there MUST be some attraction somewhere!

I always advocate playing through all the romances at least once to check out the content the devs have put in, but I personally wouldn't play either of these romances again. Left me pretty cold.

Well, I really like their personalities better than the human squadmates, but every time I have a conversation with them I think of how they and Shep would do it and it doesn't look pretty.

ManShep and Tali.

In all seriousness, go for it.

In my personal opinion, if I had to choose, it'd be Thane. Garrus doesn't seem like the type of person to fall in love with someone else, at least, not during a mission.

..?

I would say Garrus. Him and Shepard have been through hell and back together twice(maybe) always having his/her back and depending on certain backgrounds you've picked they could have a lot more in common such as losing their squads. Garrus I'm pretty sure will be there for Shepard when they need him to be.

I enjoy Thane's character he seems like a good guy but the romance is just setting up for heartbreak he is dying from Kepral's Syndrome there is no telling if a cure can be made, how long it would take to be made or work, or that the cure would even work at all with how much the illness has progressed.

That is my take on it I say Garrus but choose whoever you like the best.

Personally, I'm a sucker for the "old friends become something more" trope, so it's Garrus all the way for me. But whatever floats your boat!

I think they were talking about them being aliens and how they look while he picked Tali and we don't even know what she looks like.

I think the only way to go is to get it on with an alien. You have the choice here why not. Plus if you talk to Mordin he will tell you what you need to know about Alien/Human relations, so it would seem the LI races have similar sexual bits.

I chose Thane. Im a sucker for a box of tissues romance. But he hasn't bit the big one yet..so here's hoping!

I Enjoyed his back story and I didn't feel like Shep was replacing his wife. You can truly love more than one person, and if you really analyze it Thane didn't pay much attention to his wife, was sort of absent, and if you read that letter from LoTSB and re-read it over and over like I have you can interpret it as Thane sees Shep as "The One" because she awakened him. I know I know I a bit of a romantic, so sue me XD Not to mention they designed Thane to appeal in particular to women.

As for Garrus, he's a great character, and even has his own "appeal" so in reality it's up to RPG decisions. Do you want a tearjerker romance or the friends who fall in love romance?
